Our 2 cadets, Cody Orabutt and Jonah Peterson, are in Champaign at Illinois Fire Service Institute for Explorer Cadet Fire School.

This multi-day, immersive training program offers live fire, hands-on training for explorers, cadets, and junior firefighters. The event is held annually in July in Champaign.

IFSI Instructors have carefully designed each Explorer Cadet Fire School course to include skill building exercises, practical application live fire and hands-on evolutions, and multiple immersive training scenarios that will challenge all skill levels.

Explorer Cadet Fire School participants must be affiliated with a fire department explorer post or cadet program to attend this event.

We thank these guys for taking time out of their busy summer schedule to attend this 4 day training event.

Significant Severe Weather Event Possible Wednesday/Wednesday Night

Here we go again... Another significant severe weather event is on deck for Wednesday across the state, with two rounds of activity expected.

An initial cluster of t'storms/severe t'storms will develop very late tonight/very early Wednesday morning across portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. This activity will then slide towards the southeast, into and across much of Northern and perhaps portions of Central Illinois, from Wednesday morning into Wednesday afternoon. Some severe weather threat is possible with this first round of activity.

While some activity from round one may linger across portions of Northern Illinois through Wednesday afternoon, further south recovery will occur. Another round of severe t'storms will develop Wednesday afternoon along an advancing cold front, from Northern and Western Illinois, on down into Missouri. This activity will likely be mixed mode, potentially growing upscale into a QLCS, as it then sweeps across much of the state from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

All modes of severe weather will be likely across the state with the second -- main round of activity from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night, including damaging winds, large hail and several tornadoes. Some significant severe t'storms will be possible as well across portions of Northern and Central Illinois, capable of producing significant damaging winds (75MPH+), swaths/corridors of wind damage, strong tornadoes and very large hail (2.00"+). An upgrade to a level 4 severe t'storm risk across portions of Northern and Central Illinois is possible in future updates.
