Delayed Post – August 27, 2026
At approximately 1405 hours on August 27, 2026, the Wenham Fire Department was dispatched for an alarm activation with a report of smoke coming from the chimney, reported by a neighbor.
Engine 3 arrived to find light smoke coming from the chimney with no other visible signs of fire. During a 360° size-up of the residence, crews discovered light smoke coming from the basement windows and a light haze throughout the first floor.
Further investigation determined that there was a fire in the basement. A Hamilton engine was requested to respond and assist with operations. A hose line was stretched into the basement where crews located a fire at the bottom of the stairs in the laundry room. The fire was quickly extinguished. Wenham Engine 4 and Ladder 1 assisted with overhaul and ventilation. The residence sustained extensive smoke damage. Crews ventilated the structure, and an electrical inspector was requested to respond to the scene.
Danvers and Topsfield Fire Departments provided station coverage while crews operated at the incident.
