Wenatchee travelers, don't forget we have a road closure coming this weekend on June 20 & 21 on Mission St. between Yakima and Kittitas.

Heads up Wenatchee Travelers! The Majestic Apartments will be closing all three lanes of Mission St between Kittitas St and Yakima St on June 20th and 21st from 5AM to 7PM. There will be a detour that takes drivers, including freight vehicles, down Kittitas Street. Exxel Pacific is bringing in a massive mobile crane to safely dismantle and remove the existing tower crane. Yes, a crane taking down a crane!

We’re back with another update on the North Wenatchee Avenue Corridor Improvements project. We want to address questions and clarify concerns about the right-of-way process for the project. We are committed to a process that is transparent, respectful and fair.

To complete this project, the City will need to acquire frontage along both sides of the avenue. This additional space is needed to:
• Widen the road and sidewalks
• Improve pedestrian and vehicle safety
• Ensure emergency vehicles can move safely through the corridor

Our project team has met with every property owner along North Wenatchee Avenue to better understand and minimize impacts while addressing the safety and mobility needs in the corridor. This right-of-way process is governed by federal law to ensure fairness to property owners. For many parcels, independent third-party appraisals are now underway. These appraisers (not the City) will determine the extent of any impacts and establish fair market value for the affected property. Their work will guide all offers and ensure a fair and consistent approach.

Maintaining business operations remains a top priority throughout design and construction. To support this, the project includes steps to minimize disruption and keep businesses accessible:
• We are committed to supporting corridor businesses before, during, and after project completion.
• Most construction will occur at night
• Businesses will remain open and accessible
• Continued community support for businesses is encouraged

The graphic included with this post shows the current stage of the right of way process. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2027.

Today, the City of Wenatchee proudly joins communities across our nation in recognizing Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777.

The American flag serves as a symbol of our nation's history, resilience, and the many individuals who have contributed to the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today. It has flown through times of challenge and triumph, representing the enduring spirit of our country and the people who call it home.

On this Flag Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the significance of our flag, honor those who have served our nation, and appreciate the sense of community and civic pride that brings us together.

From neighborhoods and businesses to schools and public spaces, Flag Day is an opportunity to celebrate our shared commitment to making our community a great place to live, work, and visit.

🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸

🎉 2026 City of Wenatchee Employee Pickleball Tournament! 🎉

As part of the City of Wenatchee’s WellCity wellness program, employees recently took to the courts for our annual employee Pickleball Tournament, and what a great event it was!

Congratulations to our 2026 Pickleball Champions, Dave Osburn and Stephen Neuenschwander, who battled their way to the top and earned this year's championship title! 🏆

Events like these are a fun reminder of the importance of wellness, teamwork, and building connections beyond the workplace. The tournament gave employees an opportunity to step away from their desks, enjoy some friendly competition, and spend time together out in the community we are proud to serve every day.

We’re already looking forward to next year!

🏘️ HOMELESS RESPONSE WORKSHOP

The City of Wenatchee and the City of East Wenatchee recently held a joint City Council workshop to review homelessness response efforts, program outcomes, community impacts, and future strategies for our Valley.

We encourage community members to watch the full workshop and presentation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H2fg7LPlH0

The workshop features presentations from:
✔️ Community Development Director Glen DeVries
✔️ Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Director Dave Erickson
✔️ Homeless Response Administrator Josh Mathena
✔️ East Wenatchee Community Development Director Curtis Lillquist

Some key highlights discussed during the workshop include:

🔹 A coordinated regional approach between Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, law enforcement, parks, public works, nonprofits, and service providers.

🔹 Daily outreach efforts focused on connecting individuals to housing, treatment, recovery services, and shelter resources before enforcement action is needed. Homeless individuals whom are resistant to services and violate codes or laws are engaged by community-based law enforcement and also provided opportunities for treatment where applicable.

🔹 Current emergency shelter capacity of 269 beds, plus 13 emergency RV shelter stalls within the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, with approximately 93 beds available at the time of the presentation.

🔹 Recent expansion of family shelter opportunities through the installation of two-family shelter units at the Wenatchee Rescue Mission, serving parents with children.

🔹 The successful "Journey Home" program, which has helped individuals reconnect with verified family and support networks across the country, resulting in dozens of successful placements.

🔹 Partnerships with treatment providers including but not limited to Oxford Houses that have helped move individuals from homelessness into recovery-focused housing and support services.

🔹 Continued focus on balancing compassion, accountability, public safety, neighborhood livability, and access to services.

The workshop demonstrates how regional partnerships, data-driven decision-making, and coordinated outreach efforts are helping address homelessness while improving the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout our community.
