As another school year gets underway, our buses are back on the roads and our students are back in our communities. Whether you’re driving through a school zone, following a bus, or approaching a bus stop, a little extra caution can make a big difference.

Here are a few reminders for drivers:

🛑 Stop for school buses. When a bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, come to a complete stop and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the stop sign is retracted. Remember, students may be crossing the road or getting on or off the bus. This applies to all traffic, in either direction, unless separated by a median!

👀 Watch carefully around bus stops. Children may be nearby and can move quickly or unexpectedly. Stay alert and be prepared to stop.

📵 Put the phone away. Keep your attention on driving and your eyes on the road.

🐢 Take your time in school zones. Slow down, be patient, and allow yourself a few extra minutes during busy morning and afternoon travel times.

⚠️ Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and stop sign extended. It puts students at risk and is against the law.

Most importantly, please give our students, families, bus drivers, and other motorists a little extra patience as everyone settles into the new school year.

Let’s work together to make getting to and from school a safe start and finish to every student’s day. 💜

It's "back to school" time again, which means students will hopping aboard buses to take them to and from school. And that means drivers need to be extra careful when driving.
