Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Andrew “Andy” R. Turcotte, the new Fire Chief for the Town of Wells. Chief Turcotte began his role with the Town on August 25, bringing nearly 30 years of experience in fire, EMS, emergency medical transport, and public safety leadership to the Wells Fire Department.

Prior to joining Wells, Andy served with the Falmouth Fire Department as a Fire Officer/Paramedic and with the Westbrook Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for nearly nine years. He also worked with LifeFlight of Maine as a Flight Paramedic/Nurse and Outreach Educator. Andy holds degrees in Paramedicine, Community Paramedicine, and Nursing, along with extensive education and certifications in leadership, emergency medicine, critical care, human resource management, fire plans examination, and fire investigation. He is also a Lead Paramedic Instructor for Maine EMS and maintains numerous clinical and instructor certifications.

“I am humbled and honored to accept this position and the responsibility that comes with it,” says Andy. “As the Town continues to grow and evolve, so will our department. Safety for the public and our personnel will always be a top priority.”

Wells Fire and Wells EMS responded to this motor vehicle crash overnight. Our crews remained on scene for approximately one hour while the damaged vehicle and sign were removed.

📰 New Hampshire Man Charged Following Crash in I-95 Construction Zone 📰

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at approximately 1:25 AM, Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-95 northbound near mile marker 24 in Kennebunk. The crash occurred in an active construction zone.

The initial investigation determined that a gray 2020 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, operated by 28-year-old Brandon Perry of Dover, New Hampshire, was traveling at a high rate of speed before striking several traffic cones and a mobile construction sign board. The truck came to rest with the sign board lodged in the front of the vehicle.

Heavy-duty wrecking equipment was needed to remove the sign board from the grill of the truck. Approximately five construction cones were struck during the crash. At the time, construction workers were working approximately 100 yards away conducting bridge repairs. Perry told Troopers the truck had been experiencing mechanical issues prior to the crash.

Investigators determined that speed and the condition of the vehicle were contributing factors. Perry was evaluated at the scene but declined further medical treatment. He was charged with Driving to Endanger.

Due to a shortage of available lifeguards, we unfortunately will not be able to staff the beaches through Labor Day. Our final day of beach coverage for the season will be this Sunday.

We appreciate the dedication and hard work of our lifeguards throughout the season and thank our community and visitors for their understanding. Please continue to use caution and practice water safety when visiting the beach.

Wells Beach and Wells Ocean Rescue will resume normal operation’s today.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation yesterday on our beaches while we operated under a purple flag for the shark sighting within 500 yards of Wells Beach.

While conducting drone operations yesterday to periodically monitor the waters after the initial sighting, we had a report of a possible additional shark sighting in the area. We were quickly able to check the area of the sighting and located a sunfish. We continued monitoring the area and had no additional sightings.

Our Ocean Rescue team did a phenomenal job providing public education to beach goers and the feedback was mostly positive and understanding.

As always, stay alert, stay safe, and enjoy the beach responsibly!

This morning there was a sighting of an approximately 10 foot juvenile great white shark off of Wells Beach. This sighting is consistent with other recent sightings off the coast of Southern Maine.

Out of an abundance of caution Lifeguards will be flying the purple flag at all stands for the entire day today.

There will be no swimming allowed on Wells Beaches while the purple flag is flying.
