We had the privilege of hosting some of Sumner County’s best and brightest high school students today through Camp HYPE, a fantastic four-day summer camp that gives students the opportunity to explore careers through hands-on workshops, activities and business tours.
The students toured our grounds, experienced our transportation service, met the people we serve, and rotated through stations showcasing different work environments and tasks that our employees perform on a typical day. They learned about advocacy for people with disabilities, participated in an early childhood simulation between a teaching assistant and a preschooler, and finished the day with a family engagement activity — making ice cream! The results of their efforts were delicious.
The students were attentive, engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and did a great job interacting with the people of Futures. They represented their schools and communities exceptionally well.
Mother Nature seemed determined to test their commitment, as it rained nearly the entire time they were here. Despite getting absolutely drenched between buildings, they kept their spirits high and persevered through the weather without complaint.
A special thank you to WALT - Wellington Area Local Transit for transporting the students not only today, but throughout the week as they visited businesses across the county. WALT's help undoubtedly today’s visit a little less soggy.
Sumner County has an impressive group of young people coming up the pike, and we are excited to see the impact they will make on our community in the years ahead. We are proud of every one of them.
