I also want to do a follow up post to the harvest and donation post.

I want to elaborate on our old saying of….Out of sight, out of mind!

This hunt is a privilege, and we are at the mercy of the elected and appointed officials at the City of Weirton. Fortunately they are on our side and support what we do and see the benefits of the City hunt.
But make no mistake when I say it could be terminated in the blink of an eye!
This past year we had more complaints about this hunt and hunters than we ever had before . Actually had more in 2025 than we had in multiple years combined.
Hunting on property without written permission, deer killed illegally, etc.
We all like to talk about and show the deer we harvest, but when our quiet little hunt becomes public for the whole world to see, we lose the .. out of sight out of mind part. People that are not eligible to participate in the hunt start seeing this and start showing up to kill the “Urban Giants “
We have had people sneaking in and hunting wherever an whenever.
They don’t care about OUR hunt , and they are the ones that will ultimately cost us our hunt.
Just the other day, I saw a post online where a Hunting Lease company was offering to lease a piece of ground in the City Limits. It talked about here’s your chance to come hunt these Urban Giants.
With the money we collect and donate to charities, along with the service we provide of lowering deer vehicle collisions and reducing deer damage in the city . We have a positive impact. Dont let our greed become a negative!

WUBA and myself lost not only a great friend but a huge asset yesterday.
For those that don’t know, Larry Rusinovich passed away.
Larry has been intricate in not only helping to form, but also keeping WUBA running over the years. Larry was always only a phone call away when I needed help with something. “I will try and be there”
I knew meant he was definitely gonna make it and willing to help at the meeting however we needed.
Larry was also one of a handful of people that helped spearhead the “ Hunters Help the Hungry” program in Weirton. He along with a few others got donations etc from local churches to start this program.
Larry was an avid hunter, fly fisherman, carpenter, bow shooter/ technician ,turkey hunter but above all , he was a loyal friend.
Larry , WUBA thanks you for all you have done..

I want to share a thank you note and picture I received from Oak Glen Middle School. As you may remember, the money we collect from registration fees for the City Hunt, we have been donating to various local charities. This past fall we made a donation to Hancock County Schools, earmarked for the Archery in the Schools program.
I spoke with Jennifer Hardy, (one of their instructors), this morning, and the school just found out that their archery team qualified for Nationals!!

I wanted to do a post to get the word out on a complaint that we have received. Specifically the area known as “Starvaggi Pool” on the maps.
Starvaggi Industries contacted me reference a parking and access issue. People have been parking at the end of Millsop Drive. They are also driving past the gate and into the field at the end. They have been getting complaints at their office and now request/require all hunters hunting this area to park at the end of Starvaggi Drive. Go past the pool and the softball field and park on the access road from the timbering operation that occurred a few years ago.
Remember…. Out of sight… out of mind.
We want to keep our leased property landowners happy so they continue to provide us the opportunity to hunt.
Thank you!

We wanted to give an update on this years signups and registration for the Weirton City Urban Bowhunt. We had 214 registered adult hunters. Bringing in $4280
We also had 11 youth hunters (under 18 yrs old) which we do NOT charge to register!
So a total of 225 registered hunters.
Yesterday we presented 4 checks of $1000 each to, Community Bread Basket,
Salvation Army, Greater Weirton Senior Center, and Hancock County Schools, earmarked for their Archery in the Schools Program.
We also want to thank Change Inc. for helping to pay for the butchering of deer in the local Hunters Feed the Hungry program. Because of their help, we are able to donate nearly everything we brought in.

Officials with the Weirton Urban Bowhunters Association, on Thursday, presented contributions toward four local organizations, with funds derived through the fees paid to participate in Weirton’s annual controlled bow hunt. Receiving funds were the Community Bread Basket, the Salvation Army, the G...
