Weir Public Library: Changing Lives One Book At A Time Since 1896

Weir Public Library has been open since 1896 and will be celebrating it’s 122nd anniversary this year!! The library has been housed in 3 buildings starting with the original City Hall/Library/Police Station that suffered a tragic fire in 1994 at which time all departments were moved into the old Sacred Heart Catholic Church building. Most recently, in 2017, the library was moved into a new building on Main Street that was built and donated by the owners of the CBW Bank of Weir.

During the lifetime of the library it has had a total of 8 librarians to date. Those librarians include: Maude Wears Sabina Kilger Ella Dodson Hazel Dococq Eunice Bernardi Susan Adams Stef Arbuckle Katherine Bandy

The Weir Public Library is a member of the Southeast Kansas Library System. The library board and staff receive their continuing education through SEKLS as well as computer support, and system allocation grants.

We believe the Weir Public Library is a vital part of the community. It provides a place for people of all ages to meet, read, use the internet, or just visit. If you get a chance, please stop by and see out new facility if you haven’t already.
