Did you know that simply painting "Farm Use" on the side of a vehicle is not enough to be legal under WV law? Each year, you must apply for a sticker issued by the DMV that is sold by the County Assessor to place on your windshield in place of a motor vehicle inspection sticker. The cost of the sticker is $2, and you must provide proof of insurance, and paint in 10 inch letters on the side of the vehicle "FARM USE". Farm vehicles can only be used for farm related activities, may only be operated between sunrise and sunset, and only 35 miles point to farm. Please call or stop by if you have any questions!

Just a reminder: All homestead and disability exemption applications are due December 1st. To qualify, you must own your land that you live on, and for homestead be 65 or older before July 1, 2026; and for disability be totally disabled and not gainfully employed. Documentation is required for each exemption. You do not need to reapply if you are currently receiving either exemption, and you can only have one exemption. The exemption covers the first $20,000 of assessed value, and any remaining value you will be taxed on. Stop by or apply online via SmartFile on our website

Tomorrow, October 1st is the deadline for all Personal Property returns. Even if you have no changes, we need your return! This is the only way to ensure your assessment is accurate for the next tax year. Call us with any questions! You can mail, drop off, call us, or file online!

The deadline for Personal Property returns is next week (October 1st)! Please return your assessment by either filling out the form, call us (if you are having trouble with the phones just ringing and you are calling from a 226 number, try using your cell phone), or file online using SmartFile (link in the comments). Remember, under WV Code every resident that owns personal property needs to file a return every year even if there are no changes! Help us help you keep your assessment up to date and accurate.

Just a friendly reminder that all Personal Property returns are due by October 1st! This is the only way we know for sure that your next year's assessment will be correct and accurate! Even if you have no changes, we still need your return under WV Code. You can mail, call, drop off, or electronically file your return, so please take a couple minutes and help us help you make sure your assessment is correct to avoid problems down the line. Failure to file your return can result in wrong vehicles being assessed, and when that happens it falls upon the taxpayer to prove the incorrect assessment. Agriculture forms can be picked up in the office if needed. Personal Property returns are due October 1st, and can be filed via SmartFile as well.

Business returns are due by September 1st, and Personal returns due by October 1st! Homestead and Disability Exemptions can also be submitted online. If you have previously applied and are currently receiving the exemption, there is no need to reapply.
