More Than a Turkey Dinner ❤️

This morning, Fire Chief Chuck Stansfield put together a presentation for the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Veteran and representative of the American Legion Post 191 in Webster City, IA Troy Duffy started the ceremony with the pledge of allegiance. Then Pastor Joe Pierson of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church led us in prayer for the casualties, those we have lost since the attacks, and a hopeful bid that our country may continue to build itself up from that solemn day.

Stansfield then went through his own account of that day: the initial shock, the sadness, and then anger that followed each of the tragedies. Throughout the presentation, he showed photos from the various attacks on a projector screen. He closed the ceremony with the numbers of those who lost their lives, and a series of eight bells - one for each of the attacks, and one more for those who have died in the years following.

Those of us who remember 9/11 pay tribute in our own ways. Cole Youngdale, one of Webster City's Volunteer Firefighters, put on his gear and climbed 110 flights of stairs on an exercise machine to honor the heroic actions of the firefighters who helped save thousands of lives in the World Trade Center Towers.

Today, this very minute, marks 25 years since our nation suffered one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in our history.

We will never forget the lives lost at the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, in the planes, and on the ground. We remember all the first responders, brave citizens, neighbors, coworkers, and friends who rescued, evacuated, and comforted others. We honor their work and sacrifices in the days, months, and years since the attacks.

On this National Day of Service and Remembrance, we keep them close in our hearts.

For those who have the time and desire, there will be short public memorial presentation at 9:00AM at the Fire Station (919 Superior Street) in Webster City today. Refreshments and coffee will be available.

Your vote matters! If you are a resident of the Webster City Community School District, please consider voting in this special election today. Polls are open from 7AM - 8PM.

💜 It's officially time to vote! Polls for the referendum to renovate Webster City High School will be open from 7:00AM to 8:00PM today in the Ed Prince Building at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.

You must live in the Webster City Community School District and be registered to vote in Hamilton County to cast your ballot. If you are not registered, you can do so at the polls with a primary form of ID.

***FOR DUNCOMBE VOTERS***:
The Hamilton County Auditor's office has informed us that Duncombe voters must vote at the Duncombe Community Center at 510 Folger St. in Duncombe.

***FOR WRIGHT COUNTY VOTERS***:
The Hamilton County Auditor's office has informed us that Wright County voters within the Webster City Community School District must vote at the Ed Prince Building at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.

If you're unable to make it to the polls for the referendum on Tuesday, Sept 8, please consider voting early!

Early voting is available at the Hamilton County Courthouse today and Friday any time between 8:00AM and 4:30PM! This is a great opportunity to make sure you don't miss your chance to participate in this important decision for our schools.

You've probably noticed...The East Twin Park Shelter is officially open for public use! The shelter features two family restrooms and a covered picnic area for park users to enjoy. 🧺

We extend sincere appreciation to Mayor John Hawkins, Lynn Jaycox, the Webster City Line Department, the Webster City Parks & Recreation Department, and the Webster City Street Department for their crucial assistance in constructing the building.

A special 'Thank you' goes to API Co. Services for generously donating the metal roofing materials and installation labor, and to DCD Concrete Coatings for donating the epoxy flooring materials and installation labor.

The generosity and hard work of these individuals, businesses, and city departments helped make this important community project possible.

The bathrooms will be open Monday-Sunday from 7:00AM - 10:00PM during our park season (April 15th - October 15th).

👏🏻 We invite everyone to visit East Twin Park and enjoy the new shelter! 🎉

🔧 The Public Works Department will be performing hydrant flushing in your neighborhood starting August 31, 2026. Work will begin each day at 7am and will follow the schedule outlined below. 🗓️

After work is completed, it is recommended that residents first turn on an outside water faucet for a few minutes to flush any rust or sediment from your water service line. Any discoloration of water or small particles of lime in your water should last for only a short period of time.

Flushing operations should be completed by 4:00PM each day. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen events, the flushing schedule may be adjusted.
