Fire Rescue Operation at Van Diest Supply Center – Webster City, Iowa

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m., the Webster City Fire Department (WCFD) received a call for a fire at a building within the Van Diest Supply Company. Engine 33 initially responded to the call, with Ladder 31, Rescue 35, and Truck 30 assisting.

Upon arrival, Engine 33 found smoke showing from the bay door of one of the buildings on the south side of the complex. A fire attack line was put into service with the seat of the fire located inside the building. The fire was extinguished.

- All Van Diest Supply Center personnel were present and accounted for.
- Seven firefighters were sent to Van Diest Medical Center for observation and treatment for minor injuries sustained during operations. All seven were later released in good condition.

WCFD was assisted by Van Diest Medical Center, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Webster City Police Department, Stratford EMS, Kamrar EMS, Stratford Fire, Duncombe Fire, and Region V Hazmat during this operation. The area was cleared and all units were released.

The City is aware of community concerns regarding Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. We've been in touch with Hamilton County Public Health on this matter in order to provide helpful and accurate information. They provided the following:

HFMD is a common viral illness that spreads primarily through close personal contact and contaminated surfaces. Because exposure can occur in many community settings, it is generally not possible to determine a specific source of infection. The City continues to maintain and monitor the splash pad according to applicable operational standards and encourages all visitors to practice good hand hygiene and stay home when ill.

To give some insight into the Parks and Recreation Department's approach to opening and maintaining the splash pad, here's a list of important information:

Because the splash pad is a "pass through" system (meaning water is not recirculated), there is no need to disinfect. This is in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health. In response to this concern, however, the Parks and Recreation crew have scheduled regular disinfection of the splash pad every Friday and Monday.

Monday through Friday, the crew inspects the splash pad daily (cleaning the area to clear it of wood chippings, trash, and other debris) and checking to make sure all systems are operating normally and efficiently.

On the weekends, the Parks and Recreation crew can be reached about an emergent issue by calling the Webster City Police (515-832-9166) or the Fuller Hall Office (515-832-9193) as well as emailing Breanne Lesher directly at [email protected].

The bathrooms near the splash pad are disinfected 1-2 times per week. There was one incident on May 29th in which Parks and Recreation was notified of a mess. This was cleaned and disinfected within the same day.

We encourage everyone to enjoy our splash pad and take precautions with use of a public space. If any issues arise, please get in touch with the Webster City Police or Fuller Hall, and we will address them appropriately.

Please plan alternate routes and plan your travel accordingly. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation as these necessary repairs are completed.
