I am pleased to express my sincerest appreciation to the outstanding members of our community and neighboring counties, whose generous charitable donations have enabled us to provide vital provisions, including cooked meals, snacks, and beverages, to the courageous men and women who worked tirelessly to rescue people, homes, and pets. I must also acknowledge the critical role of law enforcement personnel, who maintained order on the streets, ensuring our safe passage and their assistance in rescuing homebound individuals from inaccessible homes and ensuring their safe relocation is truly commendable. Finally, on behalf of the Star Team, I express our heartfelt gratitude for the privilege of serving our firefighter heroes. We appreciated meeting you all...and we could not have done this without you....Thank you very much.

Last night, the Waynesville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a large brush fire that quickly grew to approximately 700 acres. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our firefighters, along with mutual aid from surrounding departments, the fire is now about 75% contained.

Crews worked through the night in tough conditions to protect homes, property, and our community. Their efforts made a significant difference in preventing further spread.

We want to thank all responding agencies and personnel for their support and teamwork during this incident. Operations will continue today as crews work toward full containment. Thank you to the community for the donation of snacks and drink, it is very much appreciated.

We ask everyone to remain cautious and avoid the affected area while crews are still on scene. As always, we appreciate the continued support from our community.

🔥 A tough reminder of how quickly things can escalate.

In just the past two days (April 18–19), Georgia saw:
➡️ 52 wildfires
➡️ 3,055 acres burned

With drought conditions worsening across the state and no meaningful rainfall in sight, it doesn’t take much for a spark to turn into a wildfire—and for that fire to spread fast.

Right now, prevention is critical.
✔️ Avoid parking or driving on dry grass
✔️ Use outdoor equipment carefully
✔️ Never leave fire unattended
✔️ Follow all burn restrictions and guidance

These numbers aren’t just statistics—they’re a reminder that wildfire risk is high, and it’s something we all play a role in.

One Less Spark = One Less Wildfire

Fighting fire. Protecting forests. Serving Georgia.

When hydrants aren’t available, we bring the water to the fire.

This is called turbo drafting — pulling large volumes of water from a nearby pond to supply fire apparatus in rural areas. It’s a critical skill that helps us move water fast and keep operations going when every second counts.

Training like this ensures we’re ready to protect our community no matter where the call comes from.
