Statement from the Chief: Beginning in the morning hours of September 27th the Haywood County Rescue Squad deployed our water rescue team to assist with rescues and evacuation of the residents in the eastern portion of Haywood County. Six people were rescued by our technicians in Canton and Bethel. We also assisted the members of North Canton Fire Department, Center Pigeon Fire & Rescue, Canton Fire Department, and Canton Police Department in evacuating many others from flooded areas.
Once the water level receded and rescue efforts were no longer needed our members transitioned their focus to providing additional EMS units to assist Haywood County Emergency Services. I would like to express my appreciation to those who have messaged, called, and offered assistance to us over the last several days. Unfortunately the failure of communication lines prevented us from recieving your offers until days after the initial operations were completed.
Words cannot express how proud I am of our members that committed countless hours and have worked for days without rest to serve the citizens of Haywood County in their time of need.
Unfortunately due to the manpower required to successfully complete our missions, we were unable to dedicate a photographer to document our involvement in this historical event. If you were in the area during our operations and happened to snap any pictures or videos of our people at work please share them with us. Thank you all again for your support.
Respectfully
Jared Pless- Chief
**EDIT** Thank you all for the photos.
