SCAM ALERT: Scammers will impersonate police officers, courts, and the IRS, demanding payment via Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfers. These requests are fraudulent. Legitimate government agencies and law enforcement officials do not demand payment through these methods or threaten immediate arrest over the phone. The scammers also insist that you not speak to anyone about the transaction and will keep you on the phone until it is complete (often for hours). If you receive such a call, hang up, verify the information independently, and report the incident. There has been an increase in reported scams, so please share this warning to help protect others.
Respectfully,
Chief Copeland

The Waynesville Police Department will be back once again during the Fourth of July festivities, handing out free bike helmets to children. In the past few years, we have not been able to get donations for this event, and we do not use taxpayer dollars to purchase these helmets. But this year, Dayton Children's graciously donated 25 helmets in various sizes. So, stop by the Command Center set up in Bicentennial Park on July 4th, where our officers will be passing out the helmets. Supplies are limited. First-come, first-served.

Update for the SR42 Project
I am providing an update on the traffic situation in the construction zone at the intersection of State Route 42 and North Street. Yesterday, April 7th, at 10 AM, I met with Ken Pottorf, the ODOT Transportation Administrator, to discuss the traffic issues within the construction area. We scheduled a meeting for today with Ryan Oder, the ODOT Transportation Manager, Scott Kraus, the ODOT District Traffic Engineer, and myself.
After our discussions, we decided that the best option would be to close the intersection during this phase of construction, effective April 9th. The necessary signage and barrels for the closure will be set up tomorrow, and the intersection is expected to remain closed for 2-3 weeks.
I would like to thank the Ohio Department of Transportation for their collaboration over the past two days to ensure that this project is completed as safely as possible. We apologize for any temporary inconvenience caused by the detour, and we have notified the school regarding the affected bus routes.
Respectfully submitted,
Chief Copeland

Public Safety Information
Motorists are advised to be aware of temporary lane restrictions, detours, and intermittent delays on State Route 42 at the intersection of North Street and Corwin Avenue. Several years ago, the Village submitted a grant proposal to the State for the installation of a traffic light at this intersection; the proposal was approved, and construction is currently underway.
I want to clarify that this is a project being conducted by the Ohio Department of Transportation and is under State authority. Despite my efforts to reach out to the State for measures to improve safety at the intersection during construction, I have not received a response.
I have also noticed some misinformation circulating on social media regarding this project. Please understand that the Village has no control over this project, and since it is a State Route, we are unable to intervene in operations or traffic patterns.
To enhance safety, the Village Police Department will conduct extra patrols in the area to reduce violations. We recommend using alternative routes during this construction phase or proceeding with caution.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Copeland
