Our department has had a full and productive week of training, focusing on sharpening the skills that keep our crews prepared for any call. This week’s sessions covered a wide range of important topics, including:

• General Company-Level Operations
• Fire Behavior Table Top Discussion
• Scene Sizeup Training
• Medical Assessment & Vital Training
• District Familiarization
• Rural Water Supply Training

Each of these trainings helps ensure that our firefighters are not only technically proficient but also ready to respond with confidence, safety, and professionalism.

Dry conditions continue to increase the risk of vegetation, natural cover, and brush fires throughout our area. Please use extra caution with anything that could produce heat or sparks, keep vehicles and equipment away from dry vegetation, properly dispose of smoking materials, and report any uncontrolled fire immediately by calling 911.

The Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District Burn Ban remains in effect as of September 3, 2026. No burn permits will be issued until further notice.

Call the Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District at 573-774-5449 to schedule a FREE smoke alarm inspection, as well as installation if needed. The American Red Cross of Missouri currently sponsors up to 4 smoke alarms per household!

BURN BAN IN EFFECT

Due to dry conditions, dry vegetation, and an increased potential for rapid fire spread, the Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District has issued a Burn Ban effective September 3, 2026, until further notice.

No burn permits will be issued while the Burn Ban is in effect.

Residents are asked to use extreme caution with any activity that could produce a flame, spark, or heat source. Please help us reduce the risk of wildfires by:

• Avoiding outdoor burning
• Avoiding equipment that may create sparks near dry vegetation
• Properly disposing of smoking materials
• Keeping vehicles and hot exhaust systems off dry grass
• Immediately reporting unattended smoke or fire by calling 9-1-1

Understanding Fire Weather & Burn Permit Decisions

Not every warm or sunny day means there is a high fire danger. Several weather and environmental factors work together to determine how easily a fire can start, how quickly it may spread, and how difficult it could be to control.

The Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District monitors conditions such as relative humidity, wind speed, temperature, and the dryness of grass, leaves, brush, and other vegetation when determining whether conditions are safe for outdoor burning.

As conditions become drier, warmer, and windier, the potential for rapid fire growth increases. During periods of High or Extreme Fire Danger, WRFPD may suspend the issuance of burn permits. When a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service, critical fire weather conditions are occurring or expected, and outdoor burning should be avoided.

⚠Remember: Fire danger can change quickly throughout the day. A permit being available earlier does not mean conditions will remain safe later.

Before conducting any outdoor burning, check current conditions and ensure a burn permit is available. When conditions aren't favorable, don't burn.

Over two and a half years ago we ordered a new fire truck to begin the replacement of our significantly aging fleet. We were ONLY able to do this because of the amazing support we received and continue to receive from our community.

This is a sneak peak of the new truck. It is currently in St Louis at Sentinel Emergency Solutions getting all the graphics, shelving, radios, etc. installed.

Once we take delivery of our new truck we plan on announcing a date for the community to come help us "put it in service" by having a Wet Down and Push In ceremony.

EXTREME HEAT & ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS TODAY

Another hot day is expected across the area, with a Heat Advisory in effect and afternoon heat index values reaching 100° to 105° or higher in some locations. Overnight temperatures will also remain warm, offering little relief from the heat.

At the same time, elevated fire weather conditions are expected across portions of the region. With the combination of hot temperatures and dry conditions, outdoor fires may start more easily and spread quickly.

Please use extra caution today:

• Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
• Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to the heat.
• Avoid unnecessary outdoor burning and use caution with anything that could create a spark or flame.
• Properly dispose of ci******es and never toss them from a vehicle.
• If working outdoors, remain alert for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

If you see an unattended or rapidly spreading fire, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and use extra caution outdoors today.
