Wayne Township Residents,
Thank you.
Yesterday, you showed up. You made your voice heard. You chose to support your fire department and the service we provide to this community.
Because of you, the levy renewal passed.
This result matters. It reflects your trust in the work our members do every day. It shows your commitment to keeping emergency services strong, reliable, and ready when you need them most.
We do not take that lightly.
Our members train hard. They respond at all hours. They serve with pride and professionalism. Your support allows us to continue building on that standard and improving the level of service we deliver.
To everyone who took the time to vote, thank you for standing behind your fire department.
We will keep earning that trust.

Yesterday evening, Wayne Township Fire Department hosted a Safety 101 Power Line Safety Demonstration presented by AES Corporation.

Our members and cadets trained alongside partners from our Township Administration, Massie Township Fire Department, Waynesville Police Department, and the Warren County Sheriff's Office.

This hands-on training reinforced a critical point. Downed power lines are dangerous. They require caution, discipline, and the right response every time.

Thank you to everyone who attended and committed their time to this training.

A special thank you to Captain Walker for coordinating and making this training happen.

We appreciate AES for providing this valuable instruction and helping strengthen our operational readiness.

Strong partnerships and continued training keep our members prepared and our community safer.

Wayne Township Fire & EMS
Levy Renewal – May Ballot

This May, residents will see a Fire & EMS levy renewal on the ballot.

This is a renewal of an existing levy.
There is no tax increase.

The current levy generates approximately $45.00 per $100,000 of property valuation and serves as the department’s primary source of funding for emergency services. Wayne Township ranks as the third lowest in fire levy collections in the county.

Over the past two years, this funding has supported measurable improvements:

Staffing and Coverage

• Established consistent daily staffing
• Began transition toward a 4-person on-duty model
• Reduced gaps in township coverage

Response and EMS Services

• Improved response times
• Increased availability of firefighter/paramedics on duty
• Improved reliability of in-township response coverage

Training and Professional Standards

• Added a Training Captain position
• Implemented structured training and accountability standards
• Improved overall readiness

Financial and Operational Stability

• Maintained operations within appropriated funding
• Implemented a sustainable compensation structure
• Aligned staffing with available resources

Equipment and Long-Term Planning

• Initiated apparatus replacement planning
• Began development of a structured PPE replacement cycle
• Actively pursuing grant funding for equipment upgrades
• Developed a 3–5–10 year strategic plan guiding staffing, equipment, and capital improvements

This levy renewal allows the department to maintain current staffing levels and service delivery. It does not create new or expanded services beyond what is currently being provided.

If the levy is not renewed, funding would be reduced, which would impact staffing and operations.

Our responsibility remains clear.
Provide reliable emergency response and medical care to the community.

Wayne Township Residents,

Each spring, Ohio experiences a sharp increase in outdoor fires. To reduce this risk, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources enforces a seasonal burn ban that runs through June 1.

This statewide burn ban was formally established in 2009 after repeated spring wildfire incidents across Ohio highlighted the need for consistent restrictions.

This is not a suggestion. It is a safety measure built on real incident data.

Why the burn ban exists:

Early spring creates the perfect conditions for fire spread.
• Dead grass and leaves ignite fast
• Low humidity dries fuels quickly
• Wind carries fire across open areas and into structures

Many of the wildfires we respond to this time of year start as small, controlled burns that get out of hand within minutes.

What the burn ban requires:

Open burning is prohibited from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
This includes:
• Brush piles
• Yard debris
• Field and ditch burning

Even outside restricted hours, conditions still create risk. A fire that starts at 7:00 PM can still spread quickly.

What we are seeing:

Across the region, fire departments respond to multiple brush and field fires every day during burn season. These incidents:
• Tie up emergency resources
• Delay response to medical calls and structure fires
• Put firefighters and residents at risk

What you should do:

• Hold off on burning until conditions improve
• Use alternative disposal methods for yard waste
• Stay aware of wind and ground conditions
• Call before you burn if you are unsure

Our priority is clear. Protect life, property, and the safety of this community.
