As Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month comes to a close, let's carry that mindfulness with us into June and beyond. Whether you're on two wheels or four, a little extra awareness on the road goes a long way — please stay safe out there.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

Join us in a moment of remembrance — fly your flag, attend the ceremony downtown, or simply take a moment today to reflect on the freedom we enjoy because of their service.

Although the Memorial Day parade has been cancelled by the Combined Veterans Council due to impending weather, the ceremony has been moved indoors. It will be held at the Waynesboro American Legion, 63 East Main St and will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, May 25.

Today, May 15th, we observe Peace Officers Memorial Day — an annual tribute to the federal, state, and local law enforcement officers across our nation who have made the ultimate sacrifice or been disabled in the line of duty.

The Borough of Waynesboro knows this sacrifice personally. Officer William Daywalt and Officer Robert Flenner gave their lives protecting the citizens of this community, and their courage and dedication will never be forgotten. I thank all who serve in law enforcement and pray that God protects them.

On a lighter note, a heartfelt thank you goes out to LCBC Church for their generous show of support today. Pastor Tim Carver, his wife Alicia, and their beautiful daughter Susie brightened our morning by bringing food and coffee to our team — a small gesture that meant a great deal.

Have you heard about the updates at the Northside Park Pool?

It feels like just yesterday that I was a lifeguard at Northside shortly after it opened in the 1970's.

The renovation of the pool is currently the biggest project underway in the borough. The work is progressing on schedule, and we are looking forward to a fantastic summer.

Here's to another summer of memories!

I am pleased to share some encouraging news from the Waynesboro Police Department . WPD recently recruited for three open officer positions, extended three offers, and all three were accepted.

Following the completion of background checks, the new recruits will begin Police Academy training in July, with graduation expected in January. They will then complete six months of field training alongside current WPD personnel before joining the force full-time.

Upon completion, these additions will bring the department to 21 officers — the first time in ten years that WPD has been fully staffed. Notably, all three recruits are local Waynesboro area residents.

We look forward to welcoming them to the department.
