We were honored to have Chief Dan Shaw-Ret Fairfax Co & Captain Doug Mitchell-FDNY come to Waynesboro to present “25 to Survive” this morning. Lots of great information for all who attended to take with them. Also, a big thank you to all who helped sponsor this event to allow Chief Griffin to bring in today’s speakers.

265 total runs thus far on the year. A few less than this time last year which is good news for the community which leaves more time for training and preparations for when the run does come in. Our firefighters log hundreds of hours training each month working hard living up to our Chief’s Montra of “Making Today’s Firefighters Better for Tomorrow than we were Yesterday”

Rarely do community events for our crews have a bigger impact on the guys participating than the community we are there to interact with, but last night was one of those times. We were honored to partner with 3 other fire-rescue & law enforcement agencies for the First Responder Appreciation Night held by Pen Mar Youth League. Each of our firefighters were partnered up with one of the players for warmups & the duration of their game. It was a great experience that had a tremendous impact on the crew. We only hope it had as much of an impact on the players we got to share our time with. Thank you!!!

Box alarm bells rang last night for smoke in the residence. E24-1 arrived first due for the Washington Twp box securing their own hydrant. The engine crew worked inside with Captain 2 to investigate the cause. Chief 2 had command of the box.

This right here is one of the hundreds of reasons that we staff our engine company 24/7; to help save the lives of the ones we are called upon to do so. While so many times the outcomes may not end positively, the tremendous teamwork across many agencies ensured this gentlemen gets to experience many more days. We’d like to thank Mayor Royer & Borough Council for recognizing our individuals who had a hand in this individual’s outcome.

Never be afraid to call 911 to report a problem you’re having or feel uncomfortable with in your residence. You are NOT troubling the FD to come out and investigate your emergency. That’s why we are here. Trust your gut. Follow your instincts. When things are left unchecked and not investigated, they tend to become bigger problems in the end. We’re here to help!!

B-shift received a call this evening from a homeowner concerned about a condition in the house. After initial information was gathered, the resident was instructed to call 911 to report the emergency while we started that direction. Thank you to all the other companies that assisted on the box alarm tonight. This marks the 4th call responded to so far today for E24-1 (box alarm, MVA, MVA, box alarm).

Always be prepared for the fire alarm that isn’t just a fire alarm. Fire alarms go off for a reason (whatever it may be). We hold these statements to be some of our bread & butter approach to responding to incidents. A-Shift responded for a fire alarm only to have the box filled for smoke from the building. Train hard, stay vigilant and play like you practice. Efficiency matters!!
