Services
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is primarily committed to the duties of law enforcement in the County, including:

Keeping the peace
Preventing crime
Protecting the property of our citizens and of visitors to our County
Ferreting out crime
Apprehending and arresting criminals
Securing evidence of those crimes
Bringing those responsible to the courts


Responsibilities
The Sheriff's Offi

ce is also responsible for:

Serving, executing and returning all writs of the courts
Directing the sale of property under foreclosure
Serving subpoenas demanding appearance in the courts
Collecting delinquent property taxes for the County
Performing all other lawful duties of peace officers in Wayne County


The Sheriff's Office is responsible for the prisoners of the County and makes arrangements for housing them in nearby correctional facilities.

❗️Reminder TODAY - Statewide Tornado Drill❗️

Wayne Police Department, along with Winside Fire Rescue, Carroll Volunteer Fire Department, Wayne Volunteer Fire Department, and the City of Wayne, Nebraska - Government will be participating in the Severe Weather Week Statewide Tornado Drill TODAY, March 25th at 10:00 a.m.

Outdoor alert sirens will be tested along with mock tornado watches and tornado warnings being sent out on social media and mass notification system.

The Village of Winside and Village of Carroll will also be testing their sirens a second time at 6:30pm.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and a High Wind Warning beginning tonight through tomorrow. Rain turning to snow, with wind gusts expected to reach 60 mph. This can create blizzard like conditions with areas of white out , making travel dangerous.
Travel is not advised; if you must travel, carry extra food, water, and any necessary medications, in addition to additional winter clothing and blankets. Ensure cell phones are charged, and that vehicles have adequate fuel.
Due to the predicted high winds, areas of electrical outages could occur. Be aware of weather updates and prepare accordingly.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications to immediately fill the position of full-time Deputy Sheriff. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, be of good moral character with no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions, and have a valid driver's license. There is a residency requirement to live within the county. Applicants must be willing to work a schedule which includes rotating nights, weekends, and holidays. Nebraska Certification is strongly preferred, but not necessary. Applicants must not have any physical impairments that would prevent the ability to perform required physical duties. If not certified, must be able to meet the admission requirements of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center, including a physical and psychological assessment.
Salary range is $48,000-$52,000 dependent upon experience. Applications will be accepted until 03-06-26.
Wayne County offers a full-time salary, family health insurance, paid vacation and holidays, retirement package, take home cruiser, all equipment and uniforms are provided, and a uniform allowance.
