In 1952 the Wayne Fire Department honored former Detroit Tiger Billy Rogell (Holding axe) as an "Honorary Fire Chief". Rogell played for the Red Sox, Tigers and Cubs between 1925 and 1940. Billy has no known connection to Wayne, so it must have been an invitation. He lived to be 99 years old and passed away in 2003. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Rogell

Big thanks to our friends at Mike and Monas - US 12 for the amazing EMS Week dinner for our Wayne Fire crew!

We’ve known the Gocaj family for a long time, and they are always going above and beyond for our community and for us.
The food was fresh, healthy, and absolutely delicious!
Our crew truly appreciated it after a busy day.

Today, the Wayne Fire Department had the pleasure of welcoming the 2nd Grade classes from Schweitzer Elementary School for a fun and educational day around the City of Wayne! 🚒📚⚖️🏛️

The students spent the morning learning how our firefighters and EMTs help keep the community safe and healthy. They even had the chance to practice putting out some “fires” using the fire hose and our target game!

Their adventure also included visits to City Hall to learn about the election process, the Wayne Court to see how the judicial system works, and our beautiful Wayne Library to discover all the opportunities it offers for learning and growing.

This is always one of our favorite days at the Fire Department, and we are grateful to the teachers, parents, volunteers, and especially the students for making it such a fun and memorable experience.

We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful summer!

Spring Cleaning Tip
Lint happens. Fires don’t have to. Lint buildup can lead to a dryer fire if it’s not cleaned regularly.
• Clean the lint filter before or after each load.
• Make sure the outdoor vent flap opens when the dryer is running.
• Have a qualified service person clean the inside of the dryer cabinet and exhaust duct once a year.
