—PRESS RELEASE—

FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2026

A Ware County jailer has been terminated from her employment and charged with multiple offenses—after she is accused of an alleged assault regarding an adult female inmate the evening of Thursday, April 30, 2026, Ware County Sheriff Carl James said.

As the Ware County Jail administrator was conducting a preliminary review of the use of force between now-former Detention Officer Shacondra Ashley Minor and the female inmate, he noted that the use of force appeared to indicate a violation of jail policy and state law, James said. Sheriff Carl James then requested the GBI conduct an investigation that resulted in arrest warrants being obtained Thursday, May 21, 2026.

At Sheriff James’ request, GBI agents from Region 4 (Douglas, GA field office) conducted the investigation that resulted in probable cause to support the warrants against Minor.

The arrest warrants formally charged Shacondra Ashley Minor, age 33, with Cruelty to an Inmate (a felony), Violation of Oath by a Public Officer (a felony), and Simple Battery (a misdemeanor). Minor was arrested without incident at the Ware County Sheriff’s Office, and she was also booked into the Ware County Jail the morning of Friday, May 22, 2026.

Minor then appeared before a Ware County Magistrate for a first appearance hearing and was released from jail after posting bond.

Minor had been employed with the Ware County Jail for just over three years, and she began her career with Ware County in 2023.

The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.

Regarding the incident, Sheriff Carl James was quoted as saying: “The trust of our community is sacred, and we will hold our personnel to the highest standard. This arrest shows our dedication to maintain that standard and to display transparency and accountability—showing that no one is above the law.”

🚨 SCAM ALERT: ANKLE MONITOR BOND HOAX 🚨

The Ware County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a fraudulent scheme targeting families of recent arrestees.
Scammers are calling citizens claiming their loved ones can be released immediately onto an ankle monitor. They are demanding immediate fee payments through digital cash apps—like Chime, Cash App, or Venmo.

PROTECT YOURSELF WITH THESE FACTS:

No App Payments: The Sheriff’s Office never accepts bond payments via Chime, mobile apps, or gift cards.

Verify First: Legitimate bonds must be handled directly through the Ware County Jail bonding office or a licensed local bondsman.

Phone Spoofing: Scammers can manipulate caller ID to make the call look like it is originating from our official department numbers.

Hang Up: If you receive a suspicious call demanding money for a release, hang up immediately.
Do not give out personal information or send funds. To verify the legitimate status of an inmate or bond requirements, call the Ware County Jail directly at their official number.

Please share this post to protect your neighbors and family members!!

Thank you!!
