Good morning, Ellis County residents.
Some of our RTS (Registration and Title System) computers are now back online, but not all stations are fully operational yet. As a result, we anticipate longer than normal wait times and lines at our offices today.
We strongly encourage vehicle owners to renew registrations online whenever possible to avoid delays.

Dear Ellis County Residents,
Please be advised that the RTS (Registration and Title System) is currently experiencing a statewide outage. This affects vehicle registration, title services, and related transactions across Texas.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Our office is monitoring the situation closely and will resume normal operations as soon as the system is restored by the state.
In the meantime:

Online services may be unavailable.
In-person services at our locations may be limited.
Property Tax Services are NOT affected by the outage.

County Clerk Office Update

We're getting ready to launch new recording and vital records systems, and our staff will be participating in training to prepare for the transition.

Because of this training, please note the following temporary closures:
Tuesday, June 9, 2026 – Vitals Department closed all day
Wednesday, June 10, 2026 – Recording Department closed all day
Thursday, June 11, 2026 – Vitals and Recording Departments closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. These upgrades will help us serve the citizens of Ellis County more efficiently and provide an even better experience moving forward.

NEW: DPS has made changes to the state’s commercial driver license (CDL) testing process. Effective today, all Texas CDL knowledge exams will be administered in English only.

This change aligns Texas’ testing procedures with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) English language proficiency requirements and will help ensure that all newly licensed commercial drivers have the communication skills necessary to operate these vehicles safely on Texas roads.

All Ellis County offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Texas Independence Day.

Offices will reopen at 8:00am on Tuesday, May 26th for normal business hours.

As storm threats continue- it's important to remember: Turn Around Don't Drown.
