🇺🇸 Today, we remember.

September 11 is a day to honor the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the families and communities forever changed.

The memorials throughout Waxahachie’s parks system honor people, service and sacrifice from different chapters of our history. While each tells a different story, they all serve an important purpose - giving our community a place to remember.

❤️ The Peace Officers Memorial at Pocket Park, where Waxahachie Police Department and Waxahachie Fire-Rescue Department gather each year to honor fallen officers
💙 Freedmen Memorial Plaza, preserving the history and legacy of those who helped shape our community
🤍 Memorial benches throughout our parks, placed in memory of loved ones
❤️ The Waxahachie City Cemetery, where generations of our community have been laid to rest
💙 The Waxahachie Civic Center is home to the Ellis County Veterans Memorial, honoring the service and sacrifice of some of our Ellis County veterans.

Today, our Parks staff lowered flags to half-staff, and our Beautification team placed American flags in planters throughout Downtown - small acts of remembrance across the community we care for every day.

💐 If you choose to honor a loved one at the City Cemetery, guidelines for flowers and memorial decorations can be found in City Code Sec. 9-3: https://bit.ly/CityCodeSec9-3

Today and always, we remember. 🇺🇸

🌳 MUSTANG CREEK PARK - FISHING POND UPDATE 🎣
Park Amenities: Barn-inspired playground • Walking path • Fishing Pond

Our Parks team responsible for Mustang Creek Park has been hard at work tackling the cattail overgrowth around the ponds! The first treatment was completed last week, along with some manual removal, and another treatment is planned for later this week or early next week.

While cattails are a natural part of pond ecosystems, too much of a good thing can become a problem! Dense overgrowth can take over shorelines, block access to the water and crowd out other vegetation, which is why our team works to keep them under control.

🎣 DID YOU KNOW? Mustang Creek Park is one of three Waxahachie pond locations stocked with trout by Texas Parks & Wildlife each year! Stocking usually occurs in December/January.

A big thank you to our Parks crew for continuing to take such great care of this park! 💚

🪦 CARING FOR WAXAHACHIE CITY CEMETERY

Caring for Waxahachie City Cemetery means preserving the history and honoring the people who rest there.

This past weekend, former Mayor David Hill, volunteering through a City-recognized organization with authorization to perform this work, gave his time to carefully clean headstones of people he never knew. 💙

The City, with the help of our local volunteer organizations, provide perpetual care of the cemetery grounds, while individual headstones remain the responsibility of plot owners and families.

We’re SO thankful for David and the local volunteer organizations that give their time to help care for these memorials. They are a valuable extension of our team!

Stay tuned for future organized opportunities to get involved!

🇺🇸 HAPPY LABOR DAY, WAXAHACHIE!

Today, we’re thankful for ALL of our City of Waxahachie staff and the work they do for our community year-round!

But an extra special shoutout goes to the team spending a holiday meant to celebrate our workforce… at work. 💙

Our Parks staff have been at our Lake Waxahachie parks - Boat Dock Park and Spring Park - all weekend and are still out there today alongside Waxahachie Police Department and Waxahachie Fire-Rescue.

And how about Mayor Billie Wallace, who spent part of her holiday weekend out at the lake with our crews! Having our Mayor show up, jump in and spend time alongside the people doing the work means a whole lot to us.

To everyone who gave up part of their Labor Day weekend to serve Waxahachie - we see you, we appreciate you and we are SO thankful for you! 🇺🇸

🏊 ONE LAST SPLASH! ☀️

Today is officially the LAST DAY of the 2026 Lee Penn Park Pool season! The pool is open TODAY from 12:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m. so come squeeze in one more swim before we close out another great summer!

We are SO thankful for everyone who spent their summer with us - and especially our lifeguards and pool staff who made the season possible! 💙

But summer fun isn’t over just yet! Our splash pads remain open through the end of September, and you can still head to the lake:

💦 ALL THREE SPLASH PADS ARE OPEN! ☀️
Through the end of September

Need a place to cool off? All three Waxahachie splash pads are FREE, open and ready for some weekend fun!

💦 George Brown Plaza (209 N. Jackson St.)
9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

💦 Matthew’s Park (501 Harvest Grove Dr.)
9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Can’t find the button? Look for the light blue pole painted with wheat in the middle of the splash pad.

💦 Railyard Park (455 S. College St.)
9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
This button is a little sneaky! Look for the brass plate on top of the first concrete seating row at the amphitheater, closest to the splash pad.

A few splash pad reminders: bring sunscreen, pack plenty of water, wear shoes on hot surfaces, keep an eye on the little ones and take breaks from the sun.

Go make a splash while you can! 💦☀️

🌟 STEPPING UP & PITCHING IN | Summer 2026
Recognizing those who work alongside us as part of our extended team.

As summer winds down, we are reflecting on the 150+ Waxahachie and Ellis County businesses and organizations that help bring our Parks & Rec spaces, programs and events to life.

Each season, we will recognize two community partners who made an impact in our local community, and for Summer 2026, we’re celebrating:

📚 Paper Leaves Shop - Hosted their free This Is Our Story community event at Railyard Park, giving away 500 new books and bringing families together in the heart of the park. We are also excited to have Paper Leaves partnering with us on future opportunities - stay tuned for details.

⚾ Premier Prospects Sports USA - Brings tournament action to the Waxahachie Sports Complex year-round, including this summer’s DFW Youth World Baseball Classic, which welcomed nearly 500 athletes from across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico. We’re proud to have Premier Prospects continue choosing Waxahachie as a destination for youth sports!

Thank you for stepping up, pitching in and being part of our extended team!
