🔥 Safe Debris Burn Permits will NOT be issued statewide today due to high wind conditions.

Burn permits issued by the Division of Forestry are shut off today due to high winds ahead of a front moving across the state. Additionally, we have a Very High Fire Danger Rating in East Tennessee.
..CRITICAL FIRE DANGER LEVELS TODAY...

US National Weather Service Morristown Tennessee said "Critical fire weather conditions are expected today and into the first part of tonight as low fuel moisture, low humidity, and very strong winds overlap. Gusts in the Smokies northward to the mountains and foothills of Greene county, could see very high winds this afternoon and evening."

The East Tennessee region will be under a RED FLAG WARNING FROM 11 AM to 8 PM ET.

Middle and West Tennessee regions will also experience high winds as the front approaches prior to receiving nearly an inch of rainfall.

We are currently under a burn ban. There will not be any burn permits issued. Please refrain from burning any debris outside.

Safe Debris Burn Permits will NOT be issued statewide today due to high wind conditions.
According to the US National Weather Service Nashville Tennessee, moisture is expected to increase a bit today, but winds will strengthen greatly this afternoon creating moderate to very high fire danger varying across the state. The strongest winds will be in the mountainous region of east Tennessee. Winds will remain very strong on Thursday but widespread showers and storms are likely.

Just FYI! No outdoor burning allowed today. We are under a red flag warning.

🔥 High Fire Danger Today 🔥
Strong winds and low humidity values will create moderate to high fire danger conditions today.
Safe Debris Burn Permits are not being issued online across most of the state as a precaution to avoid escaped debris burns that may result in a wildfire.
If you have a debris pile to burn, check back tomorrow at www.burnsafetn.org. Online permits can be obtained over the weekend for leaf and/or brush piles.

Please note: In Tennessee, restricting burn permit issuance is not considered a burn ban. Burn bans can only be proclaimed by the Commissioner of Agriculture, in consultation with the state forester and county mayors on a county basis, or by the governor, generally on a regional or statewide basis. Such bans carry more significant punishments when violated than burning without a permit. Such bans also prohibit other forms of open-air burning such as cooking fires and campfires.
