As Waverly's sanitary sewer CIPP lining project continues, some residents may notice temporary odors that smell like plastic, glue, or resin during the sewer pipe curing process.
Even if your neighborhood is not part of the active work area, it's a good idea to take a few simple steps to help prevent odors from entering your home.
What should I do?
Run or pour water in all drains, especially those that aren't used often:
• Basement floor drains
• Utility room drains
• Guest bathroom sinks, tubs, and showers
• Laundry room drains
• Any other infrequently used plumbing fixtures
Running water helps fill the P-traps, which act as a barrier that prevents sewer gases and odors from entering your home.
Check drains periodically throughout the project if they tend to dry out.
Taking a few minutes to refresh these drains can significantly reduce the chance of noticing odors during the lining process.

Starting today, City crews will be making an urgent repair to a storm intake at the west end of the alley between 1st Street NE and 2nd Street NE.

The west alley entrance will be closed until repairs are complete. Please expect the closure to remain in place for several days.

Weather permitting, the Waverly Bark Park will be closed on Wednesday, August 26, for w**d control spraying along the fence line. The prairie areas within the park will also be mowed down to help control w**ds.
The park will close at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, and will remain closed until 24 hours after spraying has been completed. Please observe and comply with all posted closure signs during this time.

What's That Smell?
The City of Waverly's sanitary sewer Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining Project is underway. This important infrastructure improvement will rehabilitate existing sewer pipes without the need for extensive digging.

What Do I Need to Know?
The contractor will provide notice to residents prior to work starting in an area – keep an eye out for a doorhanger and/or a text message alert! When crews are working in your area, there will be temporary water-use restrictions while the liner is installed and cured inside the sewer pipe.

During this time, please avoid:
• Taking showers or baths
• Running washing machines
• Running dishwashers
• Draining large amounts of water from sinks

Normal water use can resume once the lining work is complete, and crews have finished work in your area.

Why Am I Smelling Something?
During the curing process, some residents may notice a temporary odor that smells similar to plastic, glue, or resin. This odor comes from the liner material used to create the new pipe and is a normal part of the process. The smell is temporary and should dissipate shortly after the work is completed.

To help prevent odors from entering your home:
• Keep windows and doors closed while work is taking place nearby.
• Pour water into floor drains, basement drains, and other infrequently used fixtures to ensure the P-traps are full.
• Run water briefly in rarely used sinks, tubs, or showers before the scheduled work begins.
