🇺🇸 9/11 Mural Dedication Ceremony & Road Closure Notice
Tomorrow, September 11, Becky's Diner will host a Mural Dedication Ceremony in recognition of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

The community is invited to gather as the new mural is officially dedicated—a piece created to honor, remember, and reflect on the unity and strength shown in the wake of September 11th.

📍 Becky’s Diner – 310 Broad Street, Waverly
🕙 Ceremony: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
🚧 ROAD CLOSURES: 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
The following roads will be closed during the event:
Broad Street: Clark Street to Park Avenue
Fulton Street: Yanuzzi Drive to Elizabeth Street
Waverly Street: Broad Street to Elizabeth Street

PLEASE PLAN AHEAD: If your vehicle is legally parked (on the roadway or Erie Alley) within the closure area when the roads are closed, it will need to remain there until the ceremony has concluded and the roadway has reopened. If you are not attending the event, we kindly encourage you to move your vehicle beforehand to help free up parking for those attending.

⚠️ Vehicles parked illegally or in private lots without permission may be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Please allow extra time when traveling through the downtown area, use caution around increased pedestrian traffic, and follow all posted signs and directions from personnel assisting with the closure.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as our community comes together to remember those we lost, honor those who responded, and reflect on the unity that followed. 🇺🇸

📚✏️ FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! 🍎🚔

Some kids take the bus. Some get dropped off by Mom or Dad.

SRO Dekay? He requires personal delivery by Lt. Nichols. 😂

We made sure he had his backpack, remembered his lunch, took the obligatory first-day picture, and even found a few friends once we got there. 🥹

He says his favorite subject is GYM, his favorite food is STEAK, and when he grows up he’d really just like to be RETIRED. 🤣

All jokes aside, we’re excited to have SRO Dekay back at Waverly for the 2026–2027 school year! We hope all of our students, teachers, staff and families have an awesome, safe year ahead. ❤️🖤

🚸 With school back in session, please slow down and stay alert. Expect increased bus traffic and extra pedestrian traffic throughout the Village, especially during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Keep an eye out for children walking to and from school, and remember to STOP for school buses displaying flashing red lights. 🚌

And a special thank you to Lt. Nichols for making sure his bestie got safely to his first day.

P.S. — He handled drop-off very well. No tears from SRO Dekay. Lt. Nichols, however, is still adjusting. 😂

Join us downtown tomorrow, Saturday, September 5, from 2–5 PM to celebrate our Wolverines and kick off the fall sports season!

🚧 DOWNTOWN ROAD CLOSURE REMINDER

All vehicles must be removed from these streets by 1 PM:

• Broad Street — Clark Street to Pennsylvania Avenue
• Fulton Street — Erie Alley to Elizabeth Street
• Waverly Street — Broad Street to Elizabeth Street

Streets are expected to reopen by 5:15 PM. Erie Alley will remain open for parking.

GOOD LUCK to our Wolverines as they take on Port Jervis at Waverly Memorial Stadium at 6 PM! Let’s fill the stands and show our hometown pride! ❤️🖤

🚗 GAME-NIGHT TRAFFIC & PARKING

• Barker Place will become ONE-WAY for the game and return to two-way traffic afterward. Please follow posted signs and traffic directions.
• Elm Street will remain ONE-WAY as usual.
• Additional parking will be available at the Village of Waverly offices and in the open field in between, as usual.

Please be considerate of our neighbors and help keep everyone safe:

• Do not block driveways or fire hydrants.
• Leave enough room on the roadway for emergency vehicles to pass.
• Do not park in residents’ yards—check your tires and keep them off private lawns.
• Watch for pedestrians, drive slowly near the event and stadium.
• Pedestrians: use crosswalks where available and look carefully before crossing.

Waverly Police Department would like to extend a huge thank you to Tioga County Public Health for partnering with us for yesterday’s Child Safety Event!

We are so happy to say the event was a huge success, with:

🚗 17 car seat checks/installations
⛑️ 48 bicycle helmet fittings

That’s 65 opportunities to help keep kids in our community a little safer! 💙

We’re incredibly grateful to Tioga County Public Health for bringing these important services to our community and to everyone who stopped by and participated!

We are all set up at the Village of Waverly Municipal Building on Ithaca St. Come on down and get your child’s car seat checked! Plus, we are doing bicycle helmet fitting! Thank you to the Waverly Police Department for organizing this great event!
