Smart Money Teacher Grant in Action!
W-SR High School English teacher Megan Epley is putting her Smart Money Teacher Grant to work in her American Literature classroom.
With grant funding, Megan purchased Native American Trickster Tale books, giving students physical copies to read and explore with a partner rather than relying solely on stories found online.
As students read aloud and share their findings, they are discovering literary elements such as character flaws, tribal values, the balance of chaos and order, and lessons to be learned.
Megan shared that the books have allowed students to “be more present with their partner” and engage with stories from a variety of Native American tribes.
She also noted that students are “already practicing the skills needed to analyze what they read” while exploring a fun and unique style of literature.
We love seeing Smart Money Teacher Grants bring meaningful, hands-on learning experiences directly into W-SR classrooms!
Thank you to everyone who supports the Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools Foundation and helps make these opportunities possible for our teachers and students.
The next round of grant applications are due September 25 for teachers.
