Threats and Lies
Early this morning, Humphreys County School Resource Officers received information regarding a possible threat involving one of our schools. The report involved a student claiming another student intended to commit an act of violence.
The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office and Humphreys County Schools responded immediately and launched a coordinated investigation. SRO deputies, school administrators, and staff worked together from the moment the information was received to identify everyone involved, conduct interviews, follow leads, and perform home visits in order to thoroughly examine every aspect of the report.
Out of an abundance of caution, every piece of information was aggressively pursued to ensure there was no credible threat to students, staff, or school activities. The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office and Humphreys County Schools are committed to responding immediately and thoroughly to any report involving school safety, regardless of the circumstances.
During the course of the investigation, the student admitted the story had been completely fabricated and acknowledged involving other students who had no knowledge of the situation.
Humphreys County Schools and the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office want to make it clear that all threats, including false reports and fabricated claims, will be taken seriously and investigated fully. Any action that disrupts the educational environment, creates fear within the community, or diverts school and law enforcement resources away from legitimate public safety responsibilities will not be tolerated.
The student involved will face disciplinary action through the school system, and the matter will continue to be reviewed for any additional consequences deemed appropriate.
The safety and security of our students, staff, and community will always remain the top priority of both Humphreys County Schools and the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department.
