March, April, May, 6am-6pm: Ohio state law, under Ohio Revised Code (Section 1503.18 | Kindled fires), strictly prohibits open burning.

Due to the high winds experienced lately, conditions can rapidly change and turn what may seem like a controlled fire into harmful, even deadly conditions. For your safety and ours, please do not have any open fires during these times.

Yesterday evening our department was dispatched to McCoy Rd 1 mile from Beavers Ridge for a vehicle fire. Engine 801, tanker 811, and brush unit 806 responded with a total of 7 personnel to answer the call, we extinguished the flames and returned to service.

State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon has issued an order lifting a Ban on Open Burning that was first issued on Sept. 6. Rain earlier this month and cooler temperatures have significantly reduced wildfire fuel loads. Much of the state has seen grass return to green and heavier wildland fuels like larger sticks and logs have had the opportunity to soak up moisture, substantially lessening the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.

Reminder: ODNR's normal annual burn ban is still in place through November and prohibits most open burning between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. in unincorporated areas in Ohio.
