I once asked my Grandpa Ron what to do if someone stole from his garage sale and his response was if they steal it they need it more than I do. Grandpa never hesitated to give, help, or go out of his way to make some smile. Grandpa taught me the incredible value of kindness. It's a lesson that took me a great deal of time to understand and I at times struggle but strive always to better learn.

If anyone reading this has been fortunate enough to consider a charitable donation consider Friends of the Family or The Salvation Army Waterloo Cedar Falls Iowa. Both organizations helped me better understand what Grandpa was trying to teach me. That we should be kind to people even when they are sometimes not kind to us because we don't know everyone's story. We don't know if they have been fed, who hurt them, or where they have been, or what they have been through. We don't know everyone's story, but sometimes someone with a haunting story can be inspiring with a little kindness, compassion, and patience. I think it is safe for me to say these organizations would be Grandpa Ron-approved.
