For Day 6 of Police Week, we recognize Officer E. Ballein and Officer S. Ballein of the Waverly Police Department.

Officer E. Ballein serves as our School Resource Officer, where he’s earned a nickname from the students that is both simple and oddly perfect: “Officer B.” He interacts daily with the kids at school, where he’s become a familiar and trusted presence. Outside of law enforcement, Officer B wears so many different hats in public service that keeping track of them all has become its own full-time job.

Officer S. Ballein is Officer B’s son, continuing the family tradition of service. As the saying goes, like father, like son. He also served in the Army and shares his father’s sense of humor, which means the department gets a double dose of it whether we’re prepared for it or not.

We thank Officer E. Ballein and Officer S. Ballein for their dedication, service, and the unique family legacy they bring to the department during Police Week and throughout the year.

For Day 5 of Police Week, we recognize Officer Roosa and Officer Sexton of the Waverly Police Department.

Officer Roosa serves with us part-time, though “part-time” is a loose term since he’s already retired once and still came back. Clearly, he couldn’t stay away from us for long. Whether it’s duty calls or just missing the chaos, we’re glad he keeps coming back for more.

Officer Sexton enjoys spending his free time fishing, likely as a way to achieve the rare law enforcement skill of silence and patience outside of work. He also brings a great sense of humor to the job, which is appreciated more than he probably realizes during long shifts and even longer paperwork sessions.

We thank Officer Roosa and Officer Sexton for their dedication, service, and for keeping the department both experienced and well-balanced with personality during Police Week and throughout the year.

For Day 4 of Police Week, we recognize Officer Cochran and Sergeant Keechle of the Waverly Police Department.

Officer Cochran enjoys spending her time off outdoors, especially hiking and fishing. When she’s out enjoying nature, there’s also a well-known department tradition of her occasionally taking a wrong turn, or as she calls it a “scenic detour”, that turns into an unplanned navigation exercise. At this point, we just consider it part of the outdoor experience.

Sergeant Keechle also enjoys hiking. Beyond that, getting additional personal details proved difficult, which is honestly fitting.

We thank Officer Cochran and Sergeant Keechle for their dedication, professionalism, and continued service to the community during Police Week and throughout the year.

For Day 3 of Police Week, we recognize Officer Henderson and Officer Adkins of the Waverly Police Department.

Officer Henderson serves as one of our part-time officers and is known for his love of all things automated. From robotic lawn mowers to his electric car, if technology can do the work for him, he’s probably already researched it, upgraded it, and watched three YouTube reviews about it at 2 a.m.

Officer Adkins previously served in the Army National Guard and continues to bring that dedication and discipline to his role at the department today. Outside of law enforcement, he also plays bass, proving once again that every department needs at least one officer capable of handling both emergency calls and a decent rhythm section.

We thank Officer Henderson and Officer Adkins for their service, professionalism, and the unique personalities they bring to the department during Police Week and throughout the year.

For Day 2 of Police Week, we recognize Sergeant Hopkins and Officer Hickenbottom of the Waverly Police Department.

These two officers are frequently mistaken for one another by members of the public. After careful investigation, the department has narrowed the cause down to one likely factor: the beard.

Sergeant Hopkins and Officer Hickenbottom both serve the community with professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to keeping Waverly safe. Whether responding to calls, assisting citizens, or supporting fellow officers, both continue to represent the department with pride and integrity.

We thank Sergeant Hopkins and Officer Hickenbottom for their service, hard work, and for being good sports about the ongoing “which one are you again?” mystery during Police Week and throughout the year.

For Day 1 of Police Week, we proudly recognize two dedicated members of the Waverly Police Department family: Sergeant Taylor and Sergeant K9 Paco.

Sergeant Taylor is the longest-serving officer with the department. Alongside him is Sergeant K9 Paco, Sergeant Taylor’s partner and handler-assigned canine. Paco is a dual-purpose narcotics detection canine who was born in France before beginning his career in law enforcement here in the United States.

Together, Sergeant Taylor and Paco work as a team to help keep dangerous narcotics off the streets while supporting the safety of officers and the public alike.

Thank you, Sergeant Taylor and Sergeant K9 Paco, for your dedication, professionalism, and service during Police Week and every day throughout the year.
