🕯️ REMINDER: The 20-Hour Flood Memorial Vigil begins TONIGHT at midnight.

Beginning at 12:00 AM Friday, August 21, our community will come together, one hour at a time, to pray and keep watch at the Flood Memorial on Main Street, next to the former Waverly Elementary School/Waverly Junior High School site, in remembrance of the 20 lives lost on August 21, 2021.

If you signed up to keep watch, please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time so there is always someone present at the memorial, and the vigil can continue uninterrupted throughout the 20 hours.

Thank you to the individuals, families, churches, organizations, first responders, and community members who have volunteered to stand watch. If you didn’t sign up for a time slot, no worries, all are encouraged to come. Please feel free to stop by the memorial at any time during the 20-hour vigil to pay your respects, say a prayer, or simply spend a few quiet moments remembering those we lost.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🕯️

🕯️ 20 HOURS OF REMEMBRANCE 🕯️
20 Lives. 20 Candles. 20 Hours.

On August 21, 2021, our community lost 20 precious lives in the devastating flood that forever changed Humphreys County.

Five years later, we will gather in remembrance.

Beginning at 12:00 AM on August 21, 20 candles will be lit at the Flood Memorial on Main Street in Waverly and kept under watch for 20 consecutive hours.

We are asking members of our community to help us keep the watch by choosing one hour to sit with the candles, remember, and pray over the 20 lives they represent.

Groups of two or more are encouraged to sign up together. Families, friends, churches, civic groups, first responders, and community organizations are all welcome to take an hour together.

👇 TO SIGN UP:
Comment below with the one-hour time slot you would like to take. The time-slot list will be pinned in the comments and updated as hours are chosen.

Our hope is simple: for 20 hours, these candles will never be left without someone there to remember the lives they represent.

20 Candles. 20 Lives. 20 Hours.
🕯️ May their lights continue to shine. 🕯️

Humphreys County Government is pleased to announce that Finance Director Tiana Austin has earned the designation of Certified County Finance Officer (CCFO) through the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury and the University of Tennessee County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS).

Earning the CCFO designation reflects Tiana’s commitment to professional development, accountability and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. The knowledge gained through the program will continue to support Humphreys County’s efforts to maintain strong financial practices and effectively manage county resources. The CCFO program was developed in 2018 by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury and CTAS to strengthen the knowledge and professional skills of those responsible for managing the fiscal affairs of Tennessee county governments. The program provides specialized education in governmental accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, county government operations and other areas essential to sound public financial management.

To earn the CCFO designation, participants must successfully complete an extensive curriculum consisting of 11 courses and pass an examination following each course. The curriculum is designed to ensure county finance professionals understand both the fundamental responsibilities of their positions and the advanced financial practices necessary to effectively manage public funds.

Humphreys County Government congratulates Tiana Austin on this professional achievement and recognizes the time and dedication required to earn the CCFO designation.
