Nothing can slow down the Madison Mustangs Color Stampede! 🌈🙌🏼🐴

On Thursday, Madison Elementary School students participated in the school’s sixth annual Fun Run, which raised over $20,000 for the PTA to support spirit wear, field trips, the all-school dance, High Interest Day, classroom supplies, snacks, school events, and more.

Each grade level wore different colored t-shirts, and parents and family members cheered on the students with homemade signs as the students completed laps around the school building. Congrats on another successful run, Mustangs! 🥳

What started as simple moments around the homework table–one student pulling out her crochet, another working on digital art–has officially grown into year TWO of Wauwatosa Virtual Academy’s Artist’s Guild! 🧶🎨💻🖌️🖼️

From incredible handmade masks (shoutout to Jurnee Spicer’s amazing creations!) to monthly group craft challenges and individual passion projects, these students bring endless talent and imagination to the table every. single. time.

Building on four years of its D&D Club, the Artist’s Guild is proud to be Wauwatosa Virtual Academy's second student-interest space to connect, build community, and create together.

Remember when Wilson fifth-grader Rose was surprised to see her grandmother, a retired scientist, featured in a Milwaukee Public Museum video during a lesson on Wisconsin’s ancient ocean? ✨🔎🌊

On Tuesday, the excitement went to a whole new level when Rose’s grandmother visited Wilson in real life! 🤩 Special guest Patricia Coorough-Burke joined the classroom to share her firsthand knowledge, share discoveries, and answer insightful questions from Discovery Lab students across the district. Having a real-world expert AND family member in the room turned a fascinating science unit into an unforgettable hands-on experience! Fossil-filled, science-loving memories in the making! 🦣

A special shoutout also goes out to Discovery Lab teachers Valencia Caldwell and Jasmina Ruano for turning these connections into this bonus opportunity, and for all the ways our teachers bring lessons to life for our students!

Ready, set, ROAR! 🐈‍⬛🔥👟

On Tuesday, the McKinley Elementary School Mountain Lions participated in the school’s first-ever Roarin’ Run! Students walked, ran, rolled, and raced around the school building with their grades to see how many laps around the block they could complete in 20 (JK and SK) or 30 minutes (grades 1-5).

Leading up to the run, students and families raised over $28,000 for the PTO to support High Interest Day, teacher appreciation, Family Fun Nights, field trips, and more. Congrats, Mountain Lions, on running your well-deserved victory laps! 🥳

The Wauwatosa East High School Environmental Club planned and held its 4th annual Fall Eco Fest this weekend at Washington Elementary School! 🍂🌎

Students and community members enjoyed festive activities, including pumpkin painting, games, crafts, and live music by a student band.

The event raised almost $200 for Teens Grow Greens, a non-profit organization that develops youth leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills through hands-on urban agriculture and paid internship programs.

Set your child up for success in school with a free Child Development Screening!

One week from today on Friday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wauwatosa School District will offer Child Development Screenings for all children who are 3 years old and live in Wauwatosa. Screenings will take place at the Fisher Administration Building, 12121 W. North Ave.

The screening will assess your child's communication, gross and fine motor skills, social and emotional development, and pre-academic skills. Afterward, families will receive a summary of results and recommendations. Following the screening, families can identify if further assessment is needed, receive information to promote early learning, and get connected with community resources.

Can't make it? We will also offer Child Development Screenings on the following Fridays: Dec. 4, Feb. 5, and April 2.

This year's Senior STEP program continues to build bridges across generations while strengthening its focus on student literacy, thanks to new resources and training from our district experts! 📚✨

K-12 English Language Arts Coordinator Brenda Jones partnered with Library Media Services Coordinator Meegan Archambo, Wauwatosa Senior Centers Director Kosta Zervas, and Director of Wauwatosa Recreation Department Ted Martin, to facilitate a training session on Thursday with returning and new volunteers. Together, they are equipping these amazing mentors with structured reading routines to support literacy development across our schools, both during library time and through targeted push-in support during elementary reading interventions.

We are especially excited to share that the program has grown from 54 to approximately 80 volunteers this year! Connecting generations in service of student success and a love for reading is what community is all about. Thank you to all who are involved in this powerful partnership!
