Have you had any problems obtaining your 20 hours in a setting with other peers and where you are able to get the answers and from speakers who are credentialed peer specialists. Would day long or a 20 retreat help you acquire the additional hours you need? What subjects would you like to be considered for such gatherings? Post your responses so we know how you feel and what you need.

This group is for peer support specialists to share information with each other or ask a question other peer supports might be to answer from their support experiences. We'd love to hear from you as to how things are going with you out in the field.

Hearing voices is one of the most common experiences that people diagnosed with a psychotic illness have and research has shown that many people continue to hear voices even after prolonged use of medication. This has meant that many voice hearers do not get relief from their experiences. The consequence of this is that many people live lives that are low in quality & high in distress. Many professionals are left frustrated when medication does not deliver the desired results.

The first day, April 23, 2013: “Working with Voices Individually and in Groups”, is open registration for all Key-Workers and Voice Hearers (no team affiliation necessary; teams must attend all three days). Session will run from 9:00 am & finish around 4:30 pm. After participation in Day 1, participants will:
An understanding of hearing voices.
Been introduced to developing coping strategies.
To working within belief systems.
Been introduced to voice profiling.
Developed confidence & awareness in working with voices.
Developed a toolkit for working with client’s voices.
The confidence to use the voices workbook.
Understanding of how a hearing voices group is run

Days 2 & 3 of the training, “Working with Voices for Key-Workers and Voice Hearers” are for Key Workers and Voice Hearer Teams only Please Note:
This two-day section of the training-course has been developed for Key workers & Voice hearers to work together & learn how to use the ‘Working with Voices’ workbook.

There should be a maximum of 20 key workers & 20 voice hearers. Training is capped at 20 teams.

The two days will be planned around the needs of the group, their experiences & expertise.

The course is very intensive & past experience has shown it can make a profound difference in the relationship formed between key worker & voice hearer and between the voice hearer and their voices. The course will include a hearing voices group & a key-worker mentor group.

Each day will start at 9:30 am & finish around 4:30 pm, there will be plenty of time out breaks, each couple will be able to develop at their own pace.
