Last week, Trooper Schmitz stopped to assist a motorist who stopped on a ramp to I-90. The motorist informed him that she had witnessed someone throw kittens out of a moving vehicle.

Unfortunately, the offending vehicle was not located, but a kitten was found. Trooper Schmitz took the kitten to a nearby animal shelter to have it cared for while he was at work, but told them he wanted to adopt him.

Trooper Balsis recently responded to a report of an injured bald eagle on Interstate 94 near Eau Claire.

After locating the eagle along the shoulder of the highway, Trooper Balsis carefully wrapped the bird in a towel and safely transported it in his squad. Eau Claire Post Dispatch coordinated with Winged Freedom Raptor Hospital, a raptor rehabilitation hospital based in Spooner, Wisconsin, which later took custody of the eagle for treatment and rehabilitation.
