Through the Rising Phoenix program, a unique partnership between local school districts (including the Wausau School District) and UW-Green Bay, students were able to earn both their high school diploma and college degree simultaneously. The program combines dual enrollment opportunities, student success coaching, and academic support to help students get a head start on their future.

As participants in Gear Up, a federal TRIO program, these students spent the past two years taking college-level virtual courses in place of their classes at Wausau East and Wausau West, demonstrating remarkable dedication and perseverance.

This year, UW-Green Bay celebrated its largest-ever Rising Phoenix graduating class, with more than 150 students from high schools across Wisconsin earning associate degrees before their high school graduations.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for students to advance their careers,” said Der Lo, educational specialist with WEOP Gear Up. “Students are able to take college classes while having support from educational specialists like myself.”

Next stop: bachelor's degrees! 🎉 These outstanding graduates will continue their education at UW–Milwaukee, UW–La Crosse, UW–Green Bay, UW–Eau Claire, and UW–Madison.

One last sprint through the halls of Riverview. 🥹🏃‍♀️💨

Friday was packed with celebrations from start to finish—including our 4th and 5th-grade reward ceremonies, yearbook signing, and popsicles at recess—but nothing compares to the energy of the 5th-grade clap-out.

Seeing the entire school line up to cheer as our 5th graders ran the hallways one final time is the perfect way to send them off to middle school. We are so proud of you! 🎓❤️
