Jefferson County is currently experiencing very dry conditions, with limited recent rainfall and low humidity levels. These conditions significantly increase the risk of grass fires and wildfires, especially with any gusty winds.

Dry grass and brush can ignite quickly.

Fires can spread rapidly across open land.

Outdoor burning can become dangerous very fast.

HOW YOU CAN STAY AWARE & PREVENT FIRES:

Avoid any unnecessary outdoor burning.

Properly dispose of ci******es never toss them on the ground.

Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks on roadways.

Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.

Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to 911.

We encourage everyone to stay weather aware and use caution during these dry conditions. A single spark can put lives, homes, and property at risk.

02/12/2026

With the burn ban lifted, we want to remind everyone to use extreme caution when conducting any outdoor burning.

Even though burning is currently allowed, conditions remain dry, and fires can quickly get out of control.

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE SAFETY GUIDELINES:

• Keep a water source nearby at all times (hose, water tank, etc.)

• Do not burn more than you can safely control

• Never leave a fire unattended

• Be mindful of wind conditions

• Clear the area around your burn pile

• Make sure the fire is fully extinguished before leaving

It only takes a small spark to turn into a large wildfire. Protect your property, your neighbors, and our first responders by burning responsibly.

If you can’t control it don’t light it.
