This week we're excited to introduce Shirley!

With more than 40 years of experience in healthcare, Shirley has served in many different roles throughout her career, always guided by one passion—helping people.

She loves taking the time to listen, understand each person's unique needs, and connect them with the resources and services that can make a real difference in their lives. For Shirley, building relationships and helping people find the support they need is the most rewarding part of her work.

💜 Thank You for Honoring The Longest Day with Us! 💜

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us to recognize The Longest Day and help shine a light on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

From The Shortest Walk on the Longest Day to the beautiful Music, Memories & Dementia Community Concert and thoughtful panel discussion, the morning was filled with connection, education, and hope. It was inspiring to see our community come together to raise awareness, support caregivers, and honor those impacted by dementia.

Amazing to see everyone who wore purple and participated in making this event so meaningful. Together, we continue to bring awareness to the importance of brain health, early support, and compassionate communities.

We are grateful for Park Vista Retirement Living - Waupaca, Bethany, Fox Valley Memory Project, Waupaca Area Public Library, and all the participants in making this event a success, and for all who continue to support individuals living with dementia and their caregivers every day.

👋 Meet the Team Tuesday!

This week, we’re excited to introduce Shannon, one of our dedicated Adult Protective Services (APS) Social Workers here at the ADRC.

Shannon is passionate about advocating for vulnerable adults and helping ensure they have the support they need to live safely, independently, and with dignity. She investigates reports of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and financial exploitation involving older adults and adults with disabilities, while working closely with clients, families, and community partners to connect individuals with resources that promote safety and well-being.

Shannon brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and experience to her role, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she serves.

Today we recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD),
a day dedicated to raising awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

Did you know?
▪️ As many as 1 in 10 older Americans experience abuse or neglect each year.
▪️ Only 1 in 14 cases of elder abuse are ever reported to authorities.

Older adults are valued members of our communities.
They have contributed their time, talents, wisdom, and experience
to help shape the world we live in today.

When an older adult experiences abuse, neglect, or exploitation,
it impacts not only the individual but also families, friends, and communities.

Today is a reminder that everyone has a role in protecting older adults and promoting dignity, respect, and justice for all.
By learning the warning signs, checking in on vulnerable older adults, and speaking up when concerns arise, we can help create safer communities for everyone.

The Shortest Walk 🚶‍♀️☀️
Join us for The Shortest Walk—a walk around the block at the Waupaca Public Library on one of the longest days of the year.
Our hope is to bring light and awareness to the darkness of the disease of dementia.
Together, we can honor those living with dementia, support their caregivers, and help our community better understand the challenges this disease brings.
Every step, no matter how small, helps shine a light on dementia and the importance of compassion, support, and awareness.
