Whether it be a kindergartener or a lawmaker, Chuck Ripp takes time to educate people about the dairy industry. The dairyman, who milks 920 cows and farms about 1,800 acres with his family near Dane, Wisconsin, regularly devotes time to advocating on behalf of the industry he cares about.

Because of his dedication, Ripp received the Dairy Business Association’s Advocate of the Year award Jan. 15 at the Dairy Strong Conference in Green Bay.

On February 25, Yahara Pride Farms convened farmers, conservation partners, researchers, and agency leaders for its annual Watershed Wide Conference, a full-day program focused on practical solutions and emerging science shaping the future of water quality and agricultural stewardship in Dane County.

Jeff Endres is Chair of Yahara Pride Farms, a Dairy Farmer, and Co-Owner of Endres Berryridge Farms, LLC, along with his brothers, Steve and Randy, and their families. They milk purebred Holsteins and raise heifers. The families manage more than 1,000 acres of cropland focusing on conservation. For more than 13 years, Jeff, along with the board, has worked to promote sustainable agriculture in the Yahara Watershed through Yahara Pride Farms.

Yahara Pride Farms Cost-Share Program Update

Kim Meyer is an Agronomist for Dane County Land and Water Resource Department, managing the Dane Demo Farms Program. She has been working in agronomy for the past 17 years and is a certified professional agronomist through the American Society of Agronomy.

Dane Demo Farms is a new initiative dedicated to facilitating farmer-led research in Dane County, with a focus on enhancing agricultural practices to promote water quality and soil health. In 2023, the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department successfully secured a five-year joint funding agreement with USDA-NRCS to launch the program. Partners involved in the program include Dane County,
USDA-NRCS, and UW-Madison.
