60 days until the Wisconsin Primary Election.

Who’s ready?!?

In Waukesha County, we will have three important primary races on the ballot.

The first is a crowded Democratic primary for Governor, where voters will help decide who takes on the Republican nominee this November. We’ll also have a Democratic primary for State Treasurer, and voters in Assembly District 13 will choose between two Democratic candidates seeking to represent parts of Wauwatosa, Brookfield, and all of Elm Grove.

Now is the perfect time to start learning about the candidates, following their campaigns on social media (see the tags on this post!), and making a plan to vote.

August 11 will be here before we know it.

In 1982, Wisconsin Republican Governor Lee Dreyfus signed the nation's first law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. No other state passed a similar law for another nine years.

Championed by Democratic State Representative David Clarenbach and supported by a broad coalition of advocates, faith leaders, and community members, the law protected LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations.

A Democratic and Republican came together because they recognized something bigger than politics. They understood that LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites were their neighbors, coworkers, friends, family members, and fellow community members. They deserved the same dignity, respect, and protections as everyone else.

Today it can feel like we're constantly being told to fear people who are different from us. Across the country, MAGA politicians have made attacks on LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender youth, a central part of their political strategy.

Wisconsin showed the country a different path.

Our state's first-in-the-nation LGBTQ rights law wasn't about Democrats winning or Republicans losing. It was about doing the right thing. It was about recognizing the humanity in one another and standing up for people who were being treated unfairly.

That's the Wisconsin we believe in. And that's a legacy worth celebrating and defending, not just during Pride Month, but every single day.

The sun is out, summer is here, and that means our Summer Civics Series is back ☀️

We’re excited to partner with All Voting Is Local this year to bring these conversations to our community.

Join us for our first session on Monday, June 15 at 6:30 PM at the UUU Church in Waukesha. Former U.S. Attorney Jim Santelle will lead a deep dive into the rights, freedoms, and civic issues shaping our country today.

These classes are completely FREE and open to everyone, whether you’re a lifelong political ju**ie or just looking to better understand what’s happening around you.

Save this post, invite a friend, and join us for a summer of connecting the dots between current events, government, and the Constitution.

Happy Pride Month, Wisconsin! 🏳️‍🌈

There’s still work to do, but our state is moving in the right direction.

A new national report found that Wisconsin is now the 22nd-safest state in the country for LGBTQ+ individuals and was the 6th-most improved state between 2024 and 2026. While 19 states saw protections decline during that same period, Wisconsin's score increased from 67.47 to 70.01 (we'll take any small win we can get!!)

Today, nearly 6% of Wisconsin residents identify as LGBTQ+, and every one of them deserves the freedom to live openly, safely, and authentically.

Progress doesn't happen on its own. It happens when people show up for their neighbors, speak out against discrimination, engage in their communities, and make their voices heard at the ballot box ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
