Hydrant flushing is underway in Waukegan’s 5th Ward! This video gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how the process works.

Flushing hydrants is an essential part of maintaining our water system. Each hydrant is typically flushed for about 5 minutes to:
• Clear out sediment from water mains
• Improve overall water quality
• Ensure hydrants are functioning properly for emergency response

During this process, residents may notice:
• Temporary drops in water pressure
• Slight discoloration in water

If this happens, run cold water for a few minutes until it clears.

Our Waukegan Water Utility crews will continue working through the city over the coming weeks as part of this important maintenance effort. Thank you for your patience as we keep Waukegan’s water system safe and reliable.

Downtown Waukegan was filled with celebration, culture, and community this past weekend as residents and visitors gathered for the second annual Lake County Juneteenth Parade & Festival, honoring Juneteenth and its historical significance.

The event featured a parade, cultural performances, and participation from community organizations, all centered on reflection, history, and the continued importance of freedom and unity.

As event organizer Brandon Ewing shared, "It's important for the community to tell the stories of our ancestors because it is part of the cumulative story of America."

Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham reflected on the moment and the city’s diversity, saying, "We can do anything in America when you have dedicated leaders, and we’re going to rebuild Waukegan with democracy being Waukegan’s strength."

Downtown Waukegan was alive with joy and pride as more than 8,000 individuals gathered in the heart of the city to celebrate freedom, resilience, and culture at the Juneteenth Parade & Festival! This celebration was made possible by the visionary leadership and tireless, months-long dedication of the Juneteenth Lake County IL Committee in partnership with The African American Museum at The England Manor, whose passion created an amazing experience for families across the entire region.

From the parade to the festival, the atmosphere in the streets was a beautiful reminder that the growth, beauty, and prosperity of Waukegan have been fundamentally shaped by the generations of Black Americans who chose this city as their home, building neighborhoods, pioneering businesses, and leading faith communities. In Waukegan, we honor our history and celebrate our vibrant diversity.
