PADS is the first point of contact for the homeless in Lake County and often the only hope for someone facing a long night in the harsh cold or blistering heat. We serve individuals, families with children, the mentally ill, and veterans regardless of their reason for being homeless by providing vital services, such as emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, street outreach, and social se

rvices. We understand and care about improving local hardships for individuals and the Lake County community. PADS partners with Lake County businesses, houses of worship and social service agencies to fulfill our mission to help the homeless get into stable housing.

Pride Month reminds us that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Roughly 10–20% of youth in the U.S. identify as LGBTQ+, yet LGBTQ+ young people make up an estimated 20–40% of youth experiencing homelessness nationwide. This disparity reflects the impact of family rejection, discrimination, and housing instability that continue to place many at risk.

At PADS Lake County, we believe housing is a human need, not a privilege. We are committed to creating pathways to safety, stability, and belonging for all our neighbors. Everyone deserves a place where they can feel safe, supported, and at home.

Our Healthcare team recently had the opportunity to participate in two important community events centered on connection, collaboration, and building stronger systems of support.

At the Illinois Public Health Institute's Creating Connections convening, community-based organizations and Medicaid managed care partners came together to share perspectives, resources, and ideas for improving outcomes across healthcare and social services. One message stood out clearly: Housing = Health. Meaningful conversations like these help break down silos and strengthen the partnerships needed to support our neighbors experiencing homelessness and complex health challenges.

We also attended Cops and Conversations, a community-led event hosted by Man of Faith that created space for honest dialogue between community members, service providers, and local law enforcement. The discussion reinforced an important truth: safer, healthier communities are built when healthcare, housing, behavioral health, public safety, and community organizations work together.

We are grateful for opportunities to listen, learn, and collaborate alongside dedicated partners. Every conversation, connection, and shared resource helps move us closer to a community where everyone has access to the support they need to thrive.

Safe, stable housing plays an important role in mental well-being.

When people have a place to sleep and access to supportive services, it becomes easier to focus on healing, stability, and long-term goals.

Our administrative offices will be closed today, Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

This day is a time to remember and honor the service members who gave their lives in service to our country. We also recognize the many veterans who have served and now face challenges such as housing instability, mental health needs, and barriers to accessing supportive services.

At PADS Lake County, our mission is rooted in ensuring that everyone in our community including veterans has access to safety, dignity, and stability. We are especially mindful of those who have served and later found themselves experiencing homelessness, and we remain committed to connecting people with the support and resources they need.

We are grateful for their service and we honor them not only in remembrance but through ongoing work to build a community where no one is left without a place to turn.
