Sometimes one opportunity is all it takes to open the door to what comes next. For Monika, that opportunity was a full-time, paid internship with Grayslake Community High School District 127 through Lake County Workforce Development’s Work, Earn, and Learn Program.

Monika made the most of it. She gained hands-on experience, strengthened her professional skills, built valuable connections and took an important step toward the career she wanted.

Today, she is putting that experience to work as a Human Resources Generalist with Zion Elementary School District 6.

National Workforce Development Month is the perfect time to recognize the people and partnerships helping individuals build skills, pursue opportunities, and strengthen our communities. In Lake County, that work starts with a dedicated team committed to supporting the needs of our local workforce.

The Lake County Workforce Development team recently gathered for our fourth annual Team Professional Development Picnic, taking a break from the office to connect, share experiences, and enjoy time together. While professional development often focuses on building skills, it’s also about building relationships. Strong connections among colleagues foster collaboration, strengthen our team, and help us better serve our community.

This month, we’re especially grateful for the people who make workforce development happen every day. We’re proud to celebrate our team, their dedication and the important role they play in creating pathways to opportunity throughout Lake County.

Workforce Development Month is off to a great start!

The National Association of Workforce Development Professionals has announced its slate of Workforce Heroes, and we are proud to share that our own Jeffrey Hubert has received this national recognition.

Jeffrey’s workforce development journey began in 2017, when he came to the Job Center as a dislocated worker while exploring a career change. He joined Workforce Development as a grant-funded Industry Sector Specialist intern and advanced through several roles before becoming Business Services Manager in 2025.

Today, Jeffrey leads a team that connects businesses to talent, expands apprenticeships and work-based learning, and supports employee development through incumbent worker training.

Please join us in congratulating Jeffrey on this well-deserved honor!
