Dangerous heat and humidity will continue again Thursday for areas primarily south and west of the Chicago metro. Thunderstorms may limit heat farther north, but dangerous heat may persist across much of the Chicago metro if thunderstorms do not materialize. Make sure to take precautions to stay cool!

National Preparedness Month 2026

The Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency provides safety and preparedness information for residents, businesses, employees, and visitors throughout Iroquois County.

The month of September is recognized as National Preparedness Month, a time to encourage individuals, families, businesses, organizations, and communities to take action to increase emergency preparedness and resilience.

Throughout National Preparedness Month, residents of Iroquois County are encouraged to take steps to become better prepared for emergencies and disasters. This can include reviewing family emergency plans, participating in drills and exercises, discussing what to do during different types of emergencies, preparing emergency supply kits, and making sure everyone has multiple ways to receive emergency information and warnings.

Preparedness is a shared responsibility. The work we do before an emergency helps strengthen our ability to respond when disaster strikes and contributes to a stronger culture of preparedness throughout our communities, schools, businesses, local governments, organizations, and families.

National Preparedness Month is an opportunity for all of us to take the necessary steps to prepare for emergencies in our homes, workplaces, and communities.
