High school students interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy are invited to attend Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s Southern Tier Service Academy Information Night.

This event is designed for interested students, parents, school counselors, and school officials who want to learn more about the nation’s five service academies and the congressional nomination process.

Attendees will hear from representatives of Senator Gillibrand’s office, the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Department of Defense Cyber Scholarship Program.

Service academies are four-year colleges sponsored by the federal government. Students receive a bachelor’s degree, a commission as an officer, and a guaranteed job after graduation.

Students interested in applying for a 2026 Service Academy Nomination through Senator Gillibrand’s office must submit materials by Monday, October 12, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.

Schuyler County businesses and eligible nonprofits impacted by excessive rain between April 1 and July 15, 2025 may be eligible for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

These working capital loans can help with ordinary and necessary financial obligations that could not be met because of the disaster.

New Grant Opportunity for Beginning Farmers in New York State

The 2026 NYS Beginning Farmer Competitive Grant Program is now open through the New York Farm Viability Institute.

This grant is designed to help new and early-stage farm businesses grow into financially sustainable commercial agricultural enterprises. Eligible projects may include equipment, infrastructure improvements, marketing activities, crop production investments, and other farm business needs.

Eligible applicants must be New York State residents operating, or planning to operate, a for-profit agricultural business in New York and must have been a farm operator for 10 years or less.

Grant awards range from $5,000 to $200,000, depending on the project track, with a 5% match required. This is a reimbursement-based grant.

Applications are due Sunday, June 14, 2026, by 11:59 p.m.

Cut flowers, nurseries, maple, vegetables, livestock, fruit, and many other agricultural products may be eligible.
