The Waterville Fire Department announces a pre-hospital newborn delivery!

In the early morning hours of September 2nd, EMS was requested to an address here in the city for labor contractions. At the time, imminent delivery was not occurring and procedurally, the patient was transported to MaineGeneral Health - Alfond Center for Health in Augusta. Approximately one mile from ACH, mom suddenly felt the urge to push and delivered her baby boy in the back of the ambulance. The two were then transported to the obstetrical (OB) unit at ACH and the newborn baby was adorned with our newborn baby beanie that all of our OB kits contain!

This is the second field delivery our department has had since in-hospital OB units have closed in the City of Waterville. Our closest OB units are at ACH and Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan.

Our department has submitted this case to the Maine EMS Stork Pin Program for recognition of this field delivery AND for a job well done by our crew! Congratulations goes to (L to R in picture):

This was a great site visit from representatives from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Maine DHHS, Maine CDC and Maine EMS. We discussed rural health challenges and successes regarding community paramedicine.

Maine EMS Director O'Neal and members of the Rural Health Transformation Program at Maine DHHS had the opportunity last week to visit and meet with Chief Flannery and learn about the Community Paramedicine efforts at Waterville Fire - Rescue. It was informative and insightful!

Today, we remember 9/11.

25 years has gone by since 2,753 people lost their lives in New York with 343 being members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). Firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and police officers made the ultimate sacrifice saving countless lives in the World Trade Center towers.

We must also remember the lives lost at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA that day as well. We will always honor their memories and remember the heroes of that fateful day.

Puppies are cute, curious creatures...sometimes too curious!

Recently, crews from C-Shift were called to assist this cute 4-legged lady due to curiosity being TOO much and she got her head in a tight spot on the Two Cent Bridge. Crews were able to free her so she was able to continue her puppy adventures with her mom!

We all know, dogs can do no wrong.

🚒 Waterville Fire Department August 2026 Response Summary 🚑

During the month of August, the Waterville Fire Department responded to 426 incidents, averaging nearly 14 calls per day.

Our crews answered:

🚑 339 medical calls, including illness, falls, chest pain, breathing problems, and other medical emergencies.
🛠️ 39 public service calls, including citizen assists, lift assists and numerous fire inspections for commercial and multi-family dwellings.
⚠️ 16 hazardous condition calls, such as gas leaks, motor vehicle collisions, and smoke investigations.
🔥 4 fire incidents and 🚨 3 rescue incidents.

Thank you to our firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and partner agencies for their dedication to keeping our community safe every day. We are honored to serve the residents and visitors of Waterville. Thank you for your support. ❤️🚒

Waterville FD had a great team of participants at the Tunnels to Towers 5k Run and Walk in Portland today.

Born from the tragedy of 9/11, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation carries forward a legacy of courage and heroism. Built upon the mantra, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” the Foundation supports our nation’s fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, military heroes, and their families.
