Rate Increase and Public Hearing
To cover increasing operating costs and replace aging infrastructure, KWD anticipates raising water rates by 4 percent on January 1, 2027.
KWD will host a public hearing on September 29, 2026, at 7 pm at our office at 131 Drummond Avenue in Waterville.

When the weather starts cooling down, it’s time to put a pot of soup on the stove.

Grab some carrots, potatoes, onions, celery and your favorite veggies, add 8 cups of tap water, season it up, and let it simmer until the vegetables are tender. About 30 minutes later, you’ve got a steaming pot of homemade comfort food, ready for a bowl, a spoon, and maybe a hunk of some good ol' sourdough bread.

Ever notice water pouring out of a hydrant and wonder what’s going on? KWD regularly opens hydrants as part of routine maintenance, flushing sediment from water mains and helping keep the distribution system in good shape.

With more than 600 hydrants throughout KWD’s service area, keeping them maintained is a pretty big job. So the next time you see one flowing, you’re getting a glimpse of some of the work that happens behind the scenes to keep your water system running.

Your garden hose has been working overtime all summer, which means your outdoor faucet probably has too.

Before autumn settles in, take a few minutes to check your outdoor faucet for leaks, drips, or damage. Disconnect your garden hose when you’re finished using it this summer, and make sure your faucet is properly drained before freezing temperatures arrive.

A little maintenance now helps prevent frozen pipes and expensive water damage later. Your outdoor faucet has done its job all summer. Give it a little attention before the cold arrives.
