FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Waterville, Ohio
WATERVILLE, OHIO — The City of Waterville invites the community to celebrate the start of Roche de Boeuf weekend with Rock de Roche, a free concert taking place Friday, September 18th, at Parker Square in Waterville's Riverfront Park.

The event runs 6pm to 10pm and features live music from The Bridges, a well known Toledo area classic and modern rock cover band that has become a favorite at outdoor concert series across Northwest Ohio, including Hensville Live! and Party in the Park. The band takes the stage at 7pm and performs until 10pm, bringing a high energy mix of rock anthems and crowd favorites to the riverfront.

"Rock de Roche is about bringing our community together to celebrate everything that makes Waterville special, right along the banks of the Maumee," said Mayor Tim Pedro. "It's a great way to kick off Roche de Boeuf weekend and enjoy a free night of music with friends and neighbors."

Admission to Rock de Roche is completely free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of music, food, and community spirit in the heart of downtown Waterville.

This year's event will also help raise awareness and support for the Save the Bridge Association, an organization dedicated to preserving one of Waterville's most treasured landmarks.

Rock de Roche follows the Run De Boeuf 5K, hosted earlier that evening by Second Sole Perrysburg, Toledo Race Services, and Waterville Troop 101. Race day registration and check in opens at 5pm at Parker Square, with the Kids 1K starting at 6pm and the 5K Run/Walk beginning at 6:30pm. All skill levels are welcome, and participants will receive a specialty Roche de Boeuf finisher's award. Race details and online registration are available at RunSignUp.com/RDB.

Together, the Run De Boeuf 5K and Rock de Roche concert set the stage for the 53rd Annual Roche de Boeuf Festival, Waterville's signature community celebration held the following day, Saturday, September 19th, from 9am to 4pm in downtown Waterville. The festival kicks off with a parade at 10am and continues throughout the day with an artisan area, craft vendors, food trucks, and live entertainment.

Festival highlights include the Roche De Boeuf Classic Car Show, hosted at Shawn's Irish Tavern on South Third Street, featuring dash plaques, free coffee and donuts, judging across 11 categories, 14 awards, door prizes, raffles, and live music. A Kid's Area at Parker's Square will offer inflatables, a horse trolley, crafts, a DJ and live music, face painting, balloon artists, funnel cakes, and more, while local dance groups will perform at the corner of North Third and Mechanic Streets.

Earlier this week, Officer Glover and Officer Schmeltz visited Waterville Primary School.

They went to all of the first grade classes for Meet the Police. This is something new we started this year to allow the students to meet our officers, learn what their gear and vehicles look like, and ask questions. Each member of the department also had a profile made of them that includes their name, title, picture, and fun facts about them. These profiles also show what our patches, badges, and vehicles look like. These profiles are then being posted in the school for all of the students to see.

This is part of our initiative over the next two school years to develop different presentations for each grade level to increase our interactions with the youth in our area. The younger grades will receive a more introductory presentation while the older grades will receive more advanced presentations of things affecting their age group.

Construction Update: Crews will begin work on asphalt driveway approaches along Waterville-Monclova Road starting Sept. 1, followed by a northbound lane closure starting Sept. 2 for final paving between Waterville-Swanton Road and Pray Boulevard. Please plan for temporary access restrictions and follow the posted detour as this project moves closer to completion.

Asphalt Driveway Approach Installation Starting September 1, 2026
Beginning September 1, crews from Helms and Sons Excavating will be reinstalling asphalt driveway approaches on the east side of Waterville Monclova Road between Farmview Drive and Naugatuck Way. Driveway approaches must also be excavated and prepared prior to the installation of asphalt. Although access will be limited for a short period of time while your driveway approach is being installed, driveway access will be restored on the same day. All asphalt driveway installations are expected to be complete within two (2) days. Please remember all asphalt driveway installations are weather dependent and may be delayed due to weather conditions. The City apologizes for any inconvenience during the replacement of your asphalt driveway approach.

Northbound Waterville Monclova Road to Close for Paving Installation Starting September 2, 2026

Beginning September 2, crews from Helms and Sons Excavating will close the northbound lane between Waterville Swanton Rd and Pray Blvd to install final roadway paving. The detour route for northbound Waterville Monclova Road traffic will be Waterville Swanton Road to Pray Boulevard then back onto Waterville Monclova Road. There will be brief periods of time when side street intersections and driveways will not be accessible as crews pave through these areas. After paving is installed, residents will be able to access your property from the southbound lane of Waterville Monclova. Weather permitting, the closure is expected to last until Thursday, September 3 with the roadway opening in the evening to northbound traffic. If you have any questions on either project, please contact the City office (419) 878-8100.

Did you see many bicyclists in the area this morning? The Toledo Area Bicyclists (TAB) put on another successful event. This event meets at Buffalo Rock Brewery and their route takes them throughout our local area.

We also want to give a huge thank you to their organization for again donating three bicycles to three students from our city. And we also want to thank Anthony Wayne Local Schools and the City of Waterville, represented by Councilman Todd Borowski at the event, for their work with TAB in identifying and organizing the youth that were chosen for the bikes.
