The CEDS Committee is comprised of individuals representing government, planning, economic development and industry. The CEDS Committee completed "A Blueprint to Action", a major update to the original County Strategy, in 2006. The update established goals, objectives and initiatives that addressed opportunities and needs that included entrepreneurship and new business development, alternative ene
rgy production, tourism, Ft. In 2008, the CEDS Committee completed a supplement that reported on the 2006 Plan status and adjusted local approaches to better position the community to meet the outcomes desired in the full CEDS plan. The updates to this plan provided additional depth to focus areas that included entrepreneurship, downtown revitalization, tourism infrastructure and new opportunities arising from Ft. An update and modifications to the CEDS were summarized in an easy to read brochure in 2010. While most of the goals established in 2006 remained a focus for the 2010 update, once again revisions addressed new opportunities arising from changes in the national, state, regional and local economy. The latest CEDS update established seven goal areas including:
1. Small business development
2. Aviation services at the Watertown International Airport
3. Renewable energy
5. Local community visioning
6. Ft. Drum
7. Tourism
Like many regions throughout the nation, more current economic events have structurally impacted the Jefferson County economy. Recognizing these changes, the Committee would like to begin preparing an update to the 2010 CEDS.
