💜The STRIVE Coordinator from VAC has partnered with Watertown Police Department - NY to create a soft interview room in the Public Safety Building.

This space provides victims with a trauma informed space when interviewed by law enforcement.

Our STRIVE Coordinator, Devin reached out to Project Beloved: The Molly Jane Mission and shared my hopes of providing a soft interview space in our local police agency. Project Beloved was founded by Tracy Matheson who lost her daughter Molly Jane after she was sexually assaulted and murdered, she channeled her pain into her nonprofit, Project Beloved: The Molly Jane Mission, an organization dedicated to advocating for sexual assault victims. The group's name was inspired by Molly Jane Matheson’s wrist tattoo that said “Beloved.”

We were able to partner with them and not only get assistance in designing the space with one of their amazing staff but they also sent us 3 photos that were taken by Megan Getrum who was killed 5 days after Molly by same person who killed Molly. Molly did not know Megan.

Yesterday was a tough day for law enforcement. Our hearts go out to the families of the officers who lost their lives in Syracuse Sunday night. Thinking of our law enforcement extended families including the Syracuse Police Department, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department and the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office.

Please take a look at this PSA. NYS is only one of 4 states that limits drugged driving to substances contained on the controlled substances list. There are many drugs out there that are "legal" but impair a person's ability to drive and present a danger to our roadways. The loopholes in our law prevent obviously drugged drivers from being held accountable. There is a bill pending right now to change this and that bill needs widespread public support.
