Americans for Independent Living Veteran Resource Center Americans for Independent Living Veteran Resource Center (AFIL) is a 501c3 organization. AFIL honors those who've served.

Supporting veterans and their families with safe housing and a resource center where veterans can access essential resources. Tim Combs, Founder and Executive Director, has been interested in the building trades since he was 10 years-old. At 28 he went back to school and received an AAS in Civil and Construction Engineering and 5 years later started his own business. He has met the qualifications

and passed the examination to be qualified as a Certified Environmental Access Consultant. Environmental Access is the process of adapting a residence and/or general environment to promote the independence and functional ability of the physically challenged. Adaptations may include physically changing portions of an environment to create functional access according to an individual's specific needs. Because of a yearning to do more for others, he founded Americans for Independent Living in 2015. He felt veterans deserved more support than what has been available to them. He will advocate in the community to make others aware of how important it is to recognize, celebrate and support our veterans. Americans for Independent Livings impact in the community will be from public awareness of the need for more accessible living areas for disabled veterans and a transitional housing for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our Founder, Tim Combs, has returned from Washington, D.C., continuing his mission to advocate for and support homeless veterans. He has joined this effort as a dedicated member in the ongoing fight to ensure that no veteran is left without a place to call home.

Every night, approximately 33,000 veterans across our nation sleep without a roof over their heads. At Americans for Independent Living Veteran Resource Center (AFIL), we are committed to changing that reality within our own community. Our mission is clear: no veteran in our area should experience homelessness.

Through our strategic plan, we aim to establish additional housing opportunities where homeless veterans can find safety, stability, and the support needed to rebuild their lives. While we currently operate two transitional homes, the growing need demands that we expand our efforts and resources.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to serving those who have served our country. The fight is not over, and we will continue working tirelessly until we have done everything possible to ensure that our veterans have the housing, support, and dignity they deserve.
